Northeastern University 2020 ED

Hi all,

This thread is for any discussions/decisions for all ED applicants this year!

Good luck everyone!!!

Anyone know when decisions should be expected?

Pretty sure they will come out between December 5th and December 8th, that’s been the trend for ED for the past 3 years or so, let’s hope they come out in that time frame!

Are you sure they come out in that time frame? They said by December 15th so I would assume on that day specifically?

Based on the past several years, they’ve come out between the 6th and 8th. Of course I can’t be 100% sure when but I’m making a guess based on the past years. Also, a friend of mine got her acceptance notification on December 4th of last year (2018). We’ll see though! Hopefully they come out soon

“By” December 15th means that is the latest possible date. Decisions usually come out a week or 10 days before the deadline.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for ED? What type of student do they typically accept during this round…look at total picture? high class rank? only high test scores?

@partyofsix I believe the Ed acceptance rate last year was about 50%.

@TomSrOfBoston wow 50%!!! That’s very high. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you obtain this data? I’m very curious. Thanks!

I highly doubt that was a released statistic. They don’t disclose that stuff.

@BostonSchool where do you suppose that statistic came from then? I did some research and found that in 2018, the ED acceptance rate was 38% (it was published information).

@BostonSchool, They actually do, in the Common Data Set. In 2018-19, for example, 454 of 1107 Early Decision Applicants were accepted, which is 41%.

Go here and scroll down: https://provost.northeastern.edu/uds/cds/2018-2019/

I knew the percentage was high and 50% was my vague memory. An ED acceptance rate of 40% or so is common for ED applicants. The total number of ED applications is small though.

About how many total kids ED if 50% are accepted? If northeastern only accepts about 2800 students (out of 62k) each year, how many slots are there really for kids who aren’t comfortable ED-ing (due to funds).

@mtemmd Based on the CDS figures there are about 450 ED students leaving 2350 sopts for EA and RD aplicants. Others may be offered NU In.

What about ED 2? @TomSrOfBoston

Also if they accept 11,000 how do they expect to not exceed the threshold for amount of students every year? Its always around 2000-3000

@mtemmd NEU actually admits about 12K (12,042 last year from their CDS at https://provost.northeastern.edu/uds/facts/common-data-set/). Each incoming class is is only about 2800, so their yield is about 23%. My S20 has applied EA so we have to wait until February :(. But we are price-conscious, so that’s the way it goes for us!

@BostonSchool They make an estimate of the yield based on past history. In 2017 they ended up with 3100 entering students, 300 over target which resulted in a housing crunch. The last two years they came in close to target.

Just a reminder - for those of you who have applied ED to NEU, please post your admission decision and your stats for future applicants! Thanks.
