It is not near impossible to have an efc of 0. And no one else to be dead or homeless. You have a misunderstanding of how EFC works.
@GAB444 “Students who are considered independent from their parents also get a 0 EFC.” Here is a list of reasons why someone can claim to be independent on their FAFSA:
- 24 years of age or older
- Married
- A graduate or professional student
- A veteran or active duty member of the armed forces
- An orphan or ward of the court
- Someone with legal dependents, other than a spouse
- An emancipated minor
- Someone who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
- If your income is below $49,999, your family qualifies for a simplified needs test. This means both the parent’s and student’s assets are not counted in the EFC calculation and may lead to a 00000 EFC result.
- The value of assets owned by a grandparent (or other non-parent) is not reportable on the FAFSA financial aid application.
If you don’t meet any of the criteria mentioned, it’s still possible to complete the FAFSA as an independent student by asking for a dependency override. The CSS requirements are also similar. Oh and you can find all of this by searching it up on their official websites, so feel free to do more research!
Clearly, it is not “nearly impossible.” Don’t make false blanket statements. I guess I should start off by asking if you somehow know me, seeing that you keep trying to say that it’s “nearly impossible” for me to fall under these categories. You don’t know if I fall under any of the categories listed above and you need to check your privilege.
@SB8411a Lol. Perhaps I should have worded my initial comment differently. Maybe it’s not “nearly impossible” but rather “extremely rare.” I have been in college for two years and have never met anyone that falls into one of those categories. Perhaps that’s due to being privileged, but if you poll college students, only a very small minority would fit into one of those categories. I am not a financial aid counselor - I was just curious and thought I could help. But seriously, it’s not that deep - don’t take it as a personal attack because it wasn’t. I was responding to your question not asking for an argument.
I’m not sure how you got to this conclusion! There’s an info session for this Thursday AND next Thursday. There’s also only 50 people in the Facebook group rn and considering Northeastern accepts more than 500 students each semester, I find it very hard to believe that there won’t be more acceptances next week. Stay hopeful everyone! Good luck
Do we think another wave tomorrow or friday?
Well, based on the last year thread…yeah i guess
The next wave is coming out Friday, according to my friend’s NEU counselor.
Has anyone heard back about financial aid yet?
Do you guys think there’s a wave coming out today?

If you are going to BC please don’t forget to withdraw your application, so that other can have a better chance.
I hope there is something today
There probably won’t be anything on the weekend bc admissions isn’t open but considering there has only been one wave of acceptances, I think there will be more next week
Does anyone have any idea when the next wave is gonna be? I’m anxious hahah
