Northeastern University Transfer Fall 2020

Accepted. I forgot to submit the CSS and now submitting it. Will I get anything?

Got rejected from BU, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say I’m not getting into NEU :confused:

So i’m the only one here who got the duolingo request last week?

Hi everyone, do you know when the next wave of decisions will be released? Is it weekly?

Hi! I was wondering did you contact the admissions office and explained why you applied on April 15th? My materials were sent a day late so I’m a little worried lol

@cutieemochi

Ofc :slight_smile:

GPA: 3.76 (2 Bs first semester from an advisory course + accelerated college writing (which was super dumb and my credits won’t transfer over from it anyways), I got A’s for my three and four-credit courses)

Class Standing: Rising Sophmore at American University

Major: Data Science and Politics + Business

SAT: 1390 (Kinda low comparatively :/)

ECs: I interned with a democratic fundraising firm in DC (working with politicians including Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Lori Lightfoot, Al Gross) second semester as a freshman. I also started my own branch of a non-profit, expanded it to 24 active branches across the country, went on a volunteer trip to India, and gave a TEDx talk about my trip. I also was involved in conducting and learning about community-based research at American University and volunteered at a local non-profit teaching kids about nutritional benefits. I am also a girl scout, varsity tennis all four years, and I volunteered at my local hospital and worked with a speech therapist during her appointments.

Essays: Wrote about how I wanted to explore the South Asian Studies program, mentioned how I wanted to explore the intersectionality of politics and business, my interest in STEM, and my interest in stepping out of my bubble (Discussed how it was a culture shock going to a Catholic, primarily Caucasian school as an Indian, Hindu female student).

Other colleges applied to: Rutgers (accepted), Drexel (accepted), BU (TBD)

I sent in my application the day that it was due, and I submitted my transcript late so I was surprised. I still need to submit my CSS profile, so I am waiting for my financial aid information :slight_smile: Hope this helps show that everyone has a chance!

I called the financial aid office to follow up on my financial aid award as I don’t see it in my decision letter. They told me that it is pending so they are still under review of my financial paperwork. Did other accepted students get the same response from the financial aid office as me?

@BOSTON092020 I contacted the financial aid office as well (I had everything submitted on time). They told me they “are in the final stages of preparing my package.” I have substantial need, so I am almost positive they are going to give me something.

Hi! I got accepted into Northeastern University as an international student. I am currently having trouble creating my northeastern account, every time I try it says “We are sorry, your account can’t be resolved”. Is this happening to someone else? Or have you guys been able to create the account with no problem?

Have you been accepted today? You should definitely contact the admission office.

@kchen and @LadyDelyn I wanted to let you guys know that I am going to be turning down my admission to Northeastern, so don’t lose hope! Hopefully, this means that a spot will open up for y’all!

ugghh. the wait continues …

Does anyone have an EFC of 0? I am considering taking on college tuition on my own and would like to about how much I may get from Northeastern if I do…

@SB8411a Don’t you have to be grandparentless, parentless, and have zero net worth to have a EFC of 0? I know a lot of people who’s parents don’t plan on contributing to their tuition… they still are getting financial aid based off of their parents’ income. I just don’t understand how someone could have a EFC of 0. Can you explain? Are you homeless? I am currently “paying” for college myself but I don’t have a EFC of 0. How does that work? I am so confused.

I don’t think there is going to be another wave… they released the date for an online transfer information session this Thursday. So, if you haven’t been accepted by Thursday, I don’t think it’s looking too good for you…

Well, last Thursday they asked me to do the duolingo test and send the results before Wednesday. Also, based on the threads, there are like 3-4 waves but the last two ones are mostly filled with rejections.

The FAFSA EFC is meaningless at a CSS school like Northeastern. What did their NPC say you would pay?

@GAB444 LMAO! I’d love to break down my whole situation for you, but I would rather not discuss my situation with my grandparents, parents, and whether I am homeless or not in a public forum. I hope you understand. If you have an immense understanding of financial aid assistance specifically with Northeastern, please let me know so I can dm you because I have a million questions for you. I asked a question because I don’t know either.

@TomSrOfBoston I haven’t calculated it yet, but I will now :slight_smile:

@SB8411a I only meant to make a point - it’s nearly impossible to have a 0 EFC. From your first comment it seemed like you want to take the tuition responsibility upon yourself without outside financial help. Even if that is the case, your parents and grandparent’s financial standings get factored into the financial aid you receive. If this wasn’t the case, nearly every college student would have a 0 EFC. However, Northeastern’s financial services makes the “Northeastern Promise.” It states that they “are dedicated to meeting the full demonstrated need for each admitted student eligible for federal financial aid.” This is determined by the CSS profile. That being said, if you really want to go to Northeastern, and you have financial need, they will satisfy it. BUT that financial need is contingent not just on your personal finances, but on your parents/grandparents finances. So, once again, it’s nearly impossible to have a 0 EFC.
