Northeastern vs. Bowdoin Pre-Med Programs??

Hi everyone!

Im pursuing a premed track and am deciding between bowdoin and northeastern. if i could get feedback on pros/cons that would be great! i know bowdoin has somewhat of a better “name” than northeastern, but the location of boston and the co-op program may be more beneficial to me than the “name” bowdoin has? Brunswick may not have as many opportunities to build my resume for med school.

i was also accepted to middlebury, but have heard it is not as strong in sciences.

thank you!!

Where are you getting your information?

Just from what I’ve heard from people who attended and from biology program rankings online

Bowdoin if you don’t mind Maine winters and small school is the winner. And Middlebury is really great at just about everything

Bowdoin or Middlebury, I think, by a pretty wide margin. They have superior pre-med stats. Smaller classes, greater and less competitve opportunity for research w professors. I’m not aware of Northeastern’s coop program.

Focus in where you would learn best. If you do best when you have close relationshis with profs, Bowdoin might be your winner.

Northeastern was one of the pioneers in integrated internships and remains a leader. That’s their “thing”. If that’s what makes you learn best and feel connected to what you’re learning, there’s your winner.

Of course, the environments of the schools are very different. Bowdoin has much more of a community feeling because there’s nothing else around to drain energy from the campus. Northeastern, with its location and internships, is set up to be quite the opposite. Some students love the idea of a “bubble” for 4 years; others want to be independent of that.

And do look at the course catalog and requirements for graduating in general and in your planned major in particular to see what 4 years would be. For some students, distribution requirements or the required courses in their major are simply a deal killer.
