Hello,
I’m trying to get opinions about these schools: Northeastern (with merit aid), Case Western (with merit), Rutgers Honors College (with merit), and GMU Honors College (no aid). Does anyone know how these schools compared to each other, in term of educations/values/student body, graduate school, and future job outlook ? We’re from Virginia, so GMU will be in state. My son is looking at majoring in Health sciences and most likely nursing. He got accepted directly to Northeastern and Case for nursing school. But I don’t know if he goes to either of these schools, and later change his mind, can he switch out of nursing ? We’ll be going to the admitted students days there next few weeks, but I want to do some research ahead. He also got accepted to Drexel (with Dean’s scholarship) and VCU.
I would choose direct admit - so, either case or northeastern. Both programs are excellent and it’s easy to switch out (although not easy to get into!) If they’re affordable, look closely at both.
Non direct admit programs are high pressure, high risk. If you have direct admit and can afford it, take it.
If nursing is an interest then 100% go the direct entry route. At Case Western, they start their clinicals right in the beginning so he will know early on if nursing is his thing. Most schools don’t start clinicals til year 2. Check with northeastern on that. Also case is a single door admission so he can change any time he wants with likely little issue if he changes his mind after the 1st year.
Northeastern is also single door admission so no problems switching. Both are pretty comparable in the end, but Northeastern is of course co-op + Boston’s medical hub. What’s the net cost of each after scholarship?
I would go Case Western personally. Its next to two hospitals in Cleveland and has good med school placement.
I applied to Northeastern and Drexel for nursing, I am waitlisted for Northeastern and I got accepted to Drexel Nursing. Since, both are located in the city, it gives you more options to do co-ops and the people I have talked to at both colleges said we can return to one of the co-op hospitals after graduation and get a job there. I am choosing between two colleges and Drexel is one of them!
^Except since student actually got into Northeastern so is not in that situation.
Thank you all for your replies. What is single door admission ?
We will find out more after going to each school’s admitted students days in the next few weeks. We’ve never been to Northeastern, Case, and Drexel, so it will be interesting to see how each campus life is like.
