So I've narrowed down the schools that I've been accepted to, and it's between Northeastern and Pepperdine as of now... I'm waiting on Oxy :(. My zip code is slow. Anyway, I applied undecided to both schools, but I think I will be majoring in business administration with a minor in an artsy/design field. Money is not a problem, I'm wondering where I would be able to get the most bang for my parents' buck.. And I am curious as to what all of you thought about these choices? Thank youu!

NU’s business program is in the top 30 in the country, not sure about Pepperdine. I know business co ops can take you very far and Boston does have a lot of business opportunities near by. And most importantly, our hockey team is a hell of a lot better than theirs :)

Wow…these are such different schools. You really have to think about what you want in terms of size, atmosphere, etc. I have spent time at both. NEU is obviously urban, a large campus, a large population. I would say it is fairly politically liberal.
Pepperdine is so unique. Small, religious, much stricter, obviously politically conservative. As far as academics, I would consider them fairly similar.
The coops at NEU will definitely help you in the future but would you see yourself staying on the East Coast? Many of the NEU connections are obviously East.

Thank you for your responses! These schools are really different which is why I’m on the fence. I do like Pepperdine, mainly because it’s a much smaller and the school’s location is hard to beat. I favor the weather and vibe that Cali has. It’s 5 year BS/MBA business program seems to be bomb. On the other hand, NU’s co-op is killer. And I’m open to Boston and the city - I’ve lived in the city of Chicago all my life. But is co-op really that unique to NU? Couldn’t taking a decent internship during the summer at a great successful company be just as impressive to a future employer? Couldn’t we gain the experience that co-op fosters on our own terms? If this is true, I’m wondering what does NU really encompass that trumps Pepps?

well if you want the reputation of a rich cali beach kid and you want to spend more time tanning rather than gaining experience
go for it.
lol does pepperdine even have a decent business program?

Given that you are from Chicago, I would lean toward NEU. I am in Southern CA and find that many people from outside the area have an unrealistic idea of the “California vibe.”
You are going for an education, not a lifestyle.

That is trueee Ebeeee. But I don’t feel that I want to go there primarily because of an imagined California vibe. I feel that Pepps is favorable because of the smaller class sizes, weather, and decent academics. Does anybody know the average class size at NU? I just don’t want to be another number - my high school is very large and you just don’t get the unique assistance/attention smaller schools foster. Speaking of large schools I was just admitted to UMich-Ann Arbor. I don’t know about this school either. I don’t know if UMich/NU may be too large of a school. Making these decisions are a pain considering nothing is in the way of choosing one or the other. Any comments?

Business classes will be somewhere from 15-40 people, I think. Although when you take core requirements (generally in CAS), your classes will be much bigger. I’ve noticed CBA does a lot more hand-holding than some of the other schools, you’ll get more one-on-one advising and time with professors. Still it might not be the same amount of attention that you’d get at a small school like pepperdine.

ebeeee is right though, these are two very different schools. Student body, lifestyle, location… all very different.

UMich is a really awesome school, definitely deserves some thought. But, it’s MUCH bigger than NU, which seems like you might have an issue with.

I should add here that my fairly conservative daughter found that Pepperdine was even too strict for her standards… Rooms about opposite sex visiting in dorms (even during the day), curfew, etc. Have you visited Pepperdine?

Emily2007, thanks for your response. But how do you like NU overall? If you had a chance to reevaluate your college choice, would you? Also how difficult is it to transfer into NU’s business school? (I applied undecided). What are you majoring in, and do you feel that the school offers individualized assistance? And would the size difference between UMich and NU be noticeable? Both are fairly large I think.

Ebeeeee I have not visited Pepperdine yet. I’ve been in the LA area though. I was at UCLA for about 2 weeks for a summer program. I probably should visit - but I much rather spend that airfare money on something else. Ahh, maybe during SBreak. And I’ve heard about the strict rules but some who aren’t conservative still love it there. I will have to check it out. I’ve been talking to my counselor about this but it’s hard to make a decision.
