I'm looking for any information anyone can give me about campus life, Flagstaff, transportation, airports, etc. Thanks!

super isolated :(

NAU?

It’s known as the party school according to the kids at my high school. Pretty easy to get into from what I’ve heard.

which state are you from?

well first of all flagstaff is a medium size city (though not really small, like all together 100,000). It snows during the winter (not common in arizona) and has very very nice weather. Very close to grand canyon and sedona. Idk how you would go there but my friends who are going to nau from phoneix just drive up there. about 3hours drive by car ( i think???)

just ask me more question later. cant think of anything much right now…

Thanks for the reply!

I’m from Vancouver, Washington. I’m looking for schools in the west that have zoology programs. Northern Arizona popped up in my research, and I don’t know very much about it. I’ve heard that Flagstaff gets really nice weather. Anything you can tell me would be awesome… like, about their sports, dorms, campus, overall feel, a student’s perspective, professors, ect. Thanks.

Flagstaff is a very nice small city. Great outdoor recreation.

NAU has some good programs, but it was skinned by the latest budget cuts and most of the best Arizonan students go to U Arizona.

Hmmm… thanks for the input. :)

Im an Arizona student and recently spent a week there for Boy’s State. It has a wonderfully green campus which is definitely a stark contrast to U of A and ASU. In terms of academics, it’s a substantively smaller university than the other in state options. Nonetheless, it really shines in departments like Environmental Science and other outdoor fields( or so I hear). Its also considered, by far, to be the best place in Arizona to get your teaching degree.

Unfortunately, like all of our Universities, it suffers from lack of funding. The facilities are adequate but not outstanding in any way. The week I spent eating the cafeteria certainly did not kill me- It was bland…but otherwise good. The dorm we stayed in, McConnell hall, was an absolute maze! You would walk in one side of the bathroom and get lost coming out the wrong door! But the water was hot at least :).

I really do think it’s a good university, nothing spectacular of course, but it seemed an all around good place to spend for years.

Edit:
Oh and Flagstaff seems like a nice city, obviously smaller than phoenix, but I’m originally from upstate NY. So it offered more than enough for me. Iv heard people complain about a lack of things to do… But try spending 16 years in a town where the nearest walmart is 45 minutes away
Maybe not exactly a center for nightlife, but im sure it has all the necessities you truly must have for your college years. I can vouch for the fast food! :D

^ completely agree

also, you can snowboard there like all winter…there is even a major for snowboarding. lol A lots of mountains (obviously) and during fall and spring you can go hiking in grand canyon or sedona (earlier mentioned) nearby. Great outdoors to do and it might be quite different from washington cuz of all the pine trees and high altitude.
