Northwestern & Boston

Hi all,

Ah, I remember myself a freaked out high school senior when I was first using this site...now a happy 22 year old admitted to two top phd programs of my choice. I got into Northwestern and Boston for anthropology. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards NU. But for those of you familiar with either school, can you share what you think of it overall? I know the experience is specific to the department you're in, but what are your overall impressions in terms of campus, location, the quarter system (NU)? stuff like that...

-breath.

Boston College? Boston University?

Also, NU could stand for “Northeastern University.” :P

Haha, thanks for the catch guys. Boston University and Northwestern University. I’m going into Northwestern, I’m pretty sure. Very lucky to get in there. Looks like a great place.

Have you visited both schools/talked to possible advisers? Advisers will play a big part in your grad school graduation.

@ CH121S

I only visited Northwestern because they funded the trip. Boston U. said they won’t fund it and hence there were no interviews. I was somewhat intimidated by some of the Northwestern faculty…but I think that’s just because I’m afraid of the graduate school workload itself. But otherwise, Northwestern seemed great. Evanston is a great place. Peaceful, homey, etc. The stipend is 20,900 something. What do you think, how’s that for Chicago area?

thanks!

Well 20k isnt exactly rich, but it’s probably around the norm. I mean if the 2 stipends are around the same, and you get a better feeling with NU,then I think you have your answer of which you should attend ;).
