Northwestern Co-Op: $70k per year?

My friend, who just visited NU on Monday and toured an info session, said the staff member told them that the average co-op intern earns $70,000 per year! Is this true? I mean, I'm assuming it is, since he said it, but wow!

NO! Maybe the staff member referred to the starting salary for graduating seniors who co-op. Most engineers start with 50s. So 70k is on the high side. When you complete co-op, you graduate with 1-1.5 years of professional experience.

Haha, I don’t think a co-op salary would be higher than a starting salary.

In my opinion, if you plan to do co-op, your mindset should be to do it for the experience, and the money will be an added benefit. I haven’t heard of anyone who tried to fund their education by doing a co-op. I’m still on the fence as to whether I should do one or not. Maybe I should see if I can get a good one first…
