My son is a junior MT at NU and is extremely happy with the training, faculty, level of talent, and the opportunities he's had there. From what you've written about your daughter, it sounds like it might be a great fit for her, but as other posters have said, there are lots of good choices. From what you've said about her wanting the best combination of MT training and academics, the three that always come to mind for me are Northwestern, NYU and U Mich, in no particular order.

I would definitely suggest looking into a lot of the schools listed on the top of the MT forum. Great academic schools with great MT programs are all over that list. Youve got the NYUs and the N Westerns Youve got Syracuse, Illinois Wesleyan and Ithaca etc. All of these schools (and more) are different in their own way, but are known for Great academic programs along with Wonderfully Reputable Musical Theatre Programs. Good Luck with your search. I am currently a Sophomore BFA Musical Theatre student at a Liberal Arts University, so if you would like to PM me with any questions, or ask them here, feel free :-D Let us know how your search is going!

Yes, thank you bearfan! I would love to know the percentage of students who got into the MT/Theatre program at NU. I'm hoping that I am still on topic since my original post was about MT at NU! I imagine that they do have an idea which incoming freshmen have the intention of auditioning as their applications would certainly indicate their interest. So, last year when you auditioned, could you give me an idea what the number of acceptances looked like. Thanks again to everyone. I'm still working my way through this HUGE wealth of information. I have so many questions to ask, but I they are all over the place and I know I need to stay on topic in this thread.

Thanks! I am still going through all of the old threads and I am just overwhelmed with so much information. I just don't want to start a new thread if the questions have already been answered previously -- not an easy task. I figure that many have walked this path before and I'm sure my questions are repeats, so I'll keep reading! Soozievt, I tried to send you a personal message but your box was full!

^^^Thanks NJTheatreMOM....
Yes, my PM box is full and I can't keep up with it and prefer not to use it as I already have three email accounts (one personal, two for my work as a college counselor) and it keeps me plenty busy.

If you have a need to contact me, you can click on my name and choose to "email" me rather than "PM" me. Actually my personal email (if this is the nature of it) is my CC member name at AOL.

That said, I honestly cannot field the MANY personal emails that CC members send me about their individual situations as it would mean volunteering as a full time job. I spend many hours volunteering on CC to help people with the hope that my volunteer time reaches many people at one time. Obviously that doesn't help with individual situations, and is more generic help. However, I can't field individualized help from all who send me questions about their situations, as not only don't I have the time, but that is what I do for my job for students and families who are paying me for advising them on their cases. I have to put them first but I choose to volunteer on the forum because I like to help others. I also post here often just as a parent of a MT student myself. :D

Also, NJTheatreMom is right....I'm heading to NYC for my D's senior Industry MT Showcase and I likely will not be online for a couple of days.

You can try to email me if you would like, however. I can't promise to return all emails asking for advice. I try to answer some when I can though. You may be emailing about counseling services, however, but I don't know.
