notice how I mentioned engineering was good at both Vanderbilt and Northwestern…

and any program in the top 40 or so is still a good program :)

notice how I mentioned engineering was good at both Vanderbilt and Northwestern…

and any program in the top 40 or so is still a good program :)

^notice how Northwestern is ranked higher in basically every single category? :)

^haha that’s true, overall Northwestern definitely has a better academic reputation than Vanderbilt.

But the difference between a few spots for US News can be negligible (probably not for chemistry though) and the OP seems to feel more comfortable at Vanderbilt than Northwestern so in this case Vanderbilt would be the better fit. You can’t really say that Vanderbilt is “terrible” in comparison to Northwestern.

for those currently enrolled in vandy, are the classes interesting? bc as i’m looking at NU’s freshman seminar classes, they’re really interesting.

perre,
Vanderbilt is not '“terrible” in comparison to Northwestern. But it does not warrant the comment “that Vanderbilt is better academically than Northwestern”… then you going ahead and listing areas where it’s supposedly better than Northwestern!

I have been noticing your post all the time on CC. I know your intentions of making kids realize that there are other schools other than the top ranked by US NEWS. This is good and everything but it has come to a fault. Every time there is a comparison between schools, you always defend the lower ranked ones even when there is clearly a difference (Im not talking about this one now… Im going by your past posts).

I mean all the top schools did not magically appear up there. There are reasons why they are considered really good!

I’m not saying reputation wise in subject areas, I’m just talking about what I’ve read/heard about with student-faculty interactions inside the classroom, accessiblity of professors etc… and in my opinion Vanderbilt is a little better for that than Northwestern

everything people say on here is opinion, none of it is actually “fact”

I’m guessing Northwestern is not good in any of those criteria that you just listed above right? Go to any college review website the same argument will be made about Northwestern. I don’t know first hand but I will bet you a million that Northwestern brags about their own “student-faculty interactions inside the classroom, accessiblity of professors” too! Now what makes Vanderbilt the more trustworthy party in this case?

I’m not disputing that either, hopefully I wasn’t making it sound like undergrad students get shunned at Northwestern…

Pierre - you’ve already gotten owned by Sam (while a student will be served well at either school, regarding academia, one canNOT certainly argue [it] both ways), and yet, you make the same mistake again.

A “few spots” is something like 3-5 spots (maybe 7-8 if we stretch it), not 20-30 spots behind where Vandy programs repeatedly fall.

Btw, I like how you focused on NU’s more creative majors (theater, music) while ignoring the ones like economics, chemistry, sociology, etc. where NU is top 10.

I’d go with Northwestern hands down, but that’s just me.

Unfortunately, there are no rankings that are universally accepted. There are criticisms of every one, especially US World and News.
