Northwestern or Vanderbilt??? HELP!!!

I'm in a dilemma between Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Both are good schools, though Northwestern slightly more prestigious. I think their quarter system would be really beneficial tough. My financial aids from the two schools are pretty much the same, with Vanderbilt slightly better by 1-2ks. I have visited both campuses, and to be honest, I felt a bit overwhelmed by Northwestern's big campus. Furthermore, I'm from Georgia so I'm scared of the weather in Chicago/Evanston, especially the winter. According to my friends there, the winter IS pretty brutal. I know the weather seems like an insignificant factor, but I'm a firm believer in that the environment plays a great part in life. I want to prepare for premed, though not in a specific program. I plan on majoring in either bio or psych, or possibly both. I need help deciding!!! Please!!!

It seems like you like Vanderbilt better. Northwestern and Vanderbilt are comparable schools, the only reason you seem to like Northwestern is its “prestige” and in my opinion that’s not a valid reason to pick a school.

Pick Vanderbilt.

If you are afraid of the cold, do not go to Northwestern. Midwestern winters can be brutal. Vandy is an excellent school and it seems as if it’s a fit for you. Best of luck.

I concur with the above posters … and their reasoning.

I"m asian and I’ve heard so many occasions that Vandy ppl are racists. Of course it’s not all of them but it does exist.

I feel like Northwestern offers more opportunities to city life, internships (their north campus), and chance to learn (quarter system).

Just more factors to consider.
Thank you for your posts! Please leave more comments.

The diversity (broadly defined not just black and white) factor definitely favors Northwestern and Chicago. That said, if you feel more comfortable at Vandy then you can’t really make a bad or wrong choice here. I would opt for NU for personal preference, but your personal preference sounds different. At the end of the day, they are pretty dead even overall.

“I’m asian and I’ve heard so many occasions that Vandy ppl are racists.”

That’s a stereotype, Vanderbilt has come a long way from that and there is actually diversity at that school.

Vanderbilt, you can’t go wrong with it. It is academically comparable to NWU, but it has far superior girls and nightlife.

well, i’m a girl myself. what about guys?

I think Northwestern is a better school academically but both are great. Go with whichever one you will fit in better at.

Vanderbilt. Nashville is a fun college town. Both are excellent schools, of course.

which one is better for undergrad premed preparation?

also, how comparable are the two schools’ academics, or how much is NU better than Vandy?

I know there are Northwestern alumni/students just waiting to jump on me for this on CC but I think that Vanderbilt is better academically than Northwestern in my opinion though you can certainly argue both ways.

could you be more specific as to what majors vandy is better? thank you!
also, i know nu’s quarter system enables double majoring rather easier. how is it in vandy?

Strong majors at Vanderbilt: Premedicine, Engineering, Mathematics, Sociology, Psychology, Education
Northwestern: not completely sure but I know engineering, theater, journalism, and music programs are great

I really can’t say anything about double majoring at Vandy and how it changes with the semester system, sorry!

I don’t know how it’s comparable to the quarter system, but Vandy said that a majority of students double major, and some even triple major/double major with minor(s). And I thought they were kidding a little at first, but after meeting my future classmates, I was definitely proved wrong.
