Call me "old-fashioned" but I value taking the initiative to do some basic research before asking people to spoon-feed it to them (a search on CC would have answered the basic questions the OP had).

there's no reason to hate on other schools though. i think we can explain what a great schoo NU is without putting down other schools. Anyone can do something good at either school if they try their hardest. You can be succesful in both.

there's definitely no reason to criticize the OP for comparing northeastern to northwestern. although they may not be on the same caliber, northeastern certainly has some strong points of its own such as its pharmacy program. i have a friend who attends northeastern as a pharmacy major and she enjoys the professional curriculum and atmosphere of the school. NEU is simply more of a vocation-centered institute while NU is a top tier research university. comparing the two is like comparing apples with oranges.

I have friends at both schools, and both like where they are.
just as a side note: Northeastern is not outside of Boston, it is actually IN boston.....

k&s...lol I made the mistake with Penn and Penn St. as a freshman....

so if i live in New Jersey a junior who recently found out about cc and has never heard of Northwestern but has heard of Northeastern.... i cant ask questions without being called "stupid"?

futuredreamer, when i joined this site, for first couple months, i just searched, rather than post abundant questions. almost everything you want to know has been asked before. i can almost guarantee it. i know its tempting to just post anything that comes to your mind, but when you start searching around and realize how invested so many of us are in the college process and experience, you can easily understand the resentment that comes when you post "whats so great about northwestern? sorry, Im not familiar with this school since i don't hear about it much.... unlike the ivy leagues and top schools. whats the difference between northeastern and northwestern?"

you're just asking for it with the bolded part. i mean cmon.

i'm pretty sure there isn't an easy to find thread that specifically and comprehensively delineates northwestern from northeastern, new posts are what keep this site interesting, let him ask whatever he wants.

I agree completely, but the exclusion of Northwestern as a 'top school' is a tough blow for those of whom that have worked tremendously to attend the university.

Not that the initial comment in this thread deserves to be attacked in that respect but instead replaced with a valid explanation that treats both schools fairly and objectively which most CCers can probably handle

"so if i live in New Jersey a junior who recently found out about cc and has never heard of Northwestern but has heard of Northeastern.... i cant ask questions without being called "stupid"?"

No one should ever be called "stupid."

I am from the East coast and many people have heard of Northeastern because it is located here.

Northwestern is less known in the east, and frankly, isn't recognized as a top school only by those who don't know better. This has to do with its more distant location.

Having said that, there is no way around the fact that NU is considered a "top university" (take a look at the list on the opening page of the CC "discussion" page for the list of Ivies, top colleges/universities - I think there are 15 listed - and top LACs). Then there is an alphabetical listing of "others." It's set up that way on purpose.

These two schools are completely different in almost every way and are of totally different caliburs. Pull out your Princeton Review book or look on College Board and evaluate the requirements for admission to both and you will see what I mean.

Having said that, Northwestern is not a "better school" for you if it is not what you are looking for. Northeastern, on the other hand, was not the right school for those of us who chose not to apply there and worked very, very hard to get into Northwestern. It wasn't easy!

^^ oh thank you, finally... someone who understands me.... btw i've already HAD taken the initiative of looking into Northwestern from books and college search, i was asking for a view from students and others... k&s no offense u make your self sound like a complete jack4$$ to me, never seen a person like on CC so far! until now. thanks for being the first never woulda known

I wouldn't insult k&s after asking such a ****ty question.. he's simply stating out loud what many of us are thinking.

Go ahead and do your basic research BEFORE excluding NU from your personal list of "top schools."

I found this site mid-2006, registered in January, and just started posting last month. Maybe you should do the same.

Taro, that's not fair at all! I started posting almost immediately upon joining. Everyone should take as much time as is appropriate before they start, according to their own personal level. futuredreamer, for instance, should wait about 6 years.

yeah its ok.... alot of people in Chicagoland dont know the difference between U of C (University of Chicago) and UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago).

BIG DIFFERENCE.

Now, why don't we discuss the diff. btwn Northwestern and Northwestern St.?

I think k&s is just making his perspective clear. Not knowing the differences between the two schools won’t lead you anywhere. I mean not only NU and NEU but other schools too which we are thinking of and are on our personal top college lists.

Susania, the date of the last post before you was 6/21/2007.
Just saying… if you’re trying to join that discussion now, you’re a little bit late.

i still dont see the connection between NU and NEU besides the name… what clarification would be needed between the two schools that isn’t apparent through basic research…

w/e that’s cool haha welcome to CC, noob.
