Sorry to post another one of these, but I wanted to hear some other opinions before I make my final college choice.

I have narrowed my college search down to Northwestern and Wake Forest. I was accepted to the Medill School of Journalism at NU, but I am pretty certain that I would choose political science or some other avenue to law school as a major if I went to Wake (pretty wacky).

If you would like to weigh in on the following topics, I would appreciate your input:

Admissions to elite law schools

Campus life (thoughts on the student body, dorms, etc.)

Preparation for the future (i.e. quality of counseling, is there a tight-knit alumni network that has helped students find jobs)

Academic flexibility (how hard is it to change a major)

If you have anything else you could contribute, I definitely would love to hear it.

1 and 3 should be equally promising both places. On 4, WFU is no problem; you’ll want to check with NWern since you have to apply to specific schools for admission there.

The students are talented at each place and there is a vibrant campus life on each campus. The student body at NWern should be significantly more diverse than at Wake. The performing arts are also a much more prominent part of campus life at NWern, both in terms of curricular and extracurricular life. NWern, for better or worse, is interwoven into the downtown scene of Evanston, which I think is a pretty cool little city. Wake is a gated enclave several miles north of its downtown, so students have to make an effort to take advantage of the city. School spirit should be somewhat more avid at Wake. NWern’s campus is sort of split between the techies and scientists on the north end and the artists and humanities major on the south, and I think home basketball and football games may be sort of take-it-or-leave-it. Wake is much more integrated across disciplines, and home games are not-to-be-missed social events.

In general, it’s very easy to switch or add a major (e.g. journalism + poli sci) at NU. Few exceptions are theater and music performance for obvious reasons. You can easily transfer from the journalism school to artsci school anytime (though the reverse is much more difficult). At NU, you’d have a chance (competitive admission) to add this awesome major:

???

student body: NU is more diverse, dorms: similar, WFU has smaller campus&smaller number of students and more about sports&greek life than NU is

WFU- stronger liberal arts/undergrad education; NU- more prestigious/better ranked

looks like it’s easy to switch majors in both institutions
