Not a top athlete, but ....

Captain of the golf team and pretty good at it, though the team is not the greatest. SO, it has been suggested to take a video of playing and send it to golf coaches at various schools. If he is not a top ranked player, will a video help get him in or at least get the coach to pay attention?

What are his scores and on what kind of courses (how long, slope/rating)? The problem with golf recruiting for boys is that there are usually 5 or 6 scholarshiped spots on a team. Even at the DIII level, it’s pretty competitive to make a team.

Division 1 only has 4.5 scholarship for a fully funded program and teams are generally 10 or so players. D2 is 3.5, D3 has no money for athletics. NAIA could be an option. Most college coaches do pay much attention to high school golf unless he wins the state championship. Most golf recruiting (for boys) is done from tournament play at the state and national level outside of high school. Neerod if you want to personal message me, I can link you to a bunch of websites that can really help you, I am very familiar with golf recruiting for the boys as that is my sons sport. He is now in his junior year at the D1 level at a mid major program. It would help a lot to get an idea of your sons ability because for example, to play D1 you basically need to be a scratch golfer or a + handicap… D2 is a bit more forgiving but not much. D3 probably looking at still a scoring average of 73/74 on college level courses to get any nods or attention. Please message me if you would like some guidance.

golf, like most non-revenue sports probably draws most off the national competitions that sport sponsors…fencing, tennis & golf all have national ranking systems in addition to their local high school or state rankings.

^^^ Yes, high school golf is basically invisible to coaches other than perhaps the ones in the colleges home town.
