Not accepted?

My status page reads: "Your application has been reviewed and an admission decision has been made. You will receive notification in the mail. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Admissions."

Since I've read that other people's statuses read Congratulations, you are accepted, does this indicate that I was not? Was anyone who was accepted receive this message?

you could have been waitlisted as well.

A call to the admissions office confirms that if it says something other than "you have been accepted" it means you were not.

Sorry about the bad news, although as indicated, it could mean waitlisted. If that is the case, consider sending additional recommendations or even see if someone can call on your behalf. (Usually it is better to have them do this in another 1 month when the school has finished reviewing most of its applications and know how many additional openings it is likely to have for the coming year.)

Also, if you are willing to start in the summer before, or the spring semester afterwards, let them know that. Lots of times they give students an acceptance based upon them starting in a different semester period.

Hope this helps, and don't forget that which school you get into isn't the most important thing--it's what you do with the education you get that counts.

Thanks for the help.

I would just like to clarify my outcome. A few days after receiving the above message, it was changed to a message indicating that IU will delay making a decision on me until Mid-December. So I guess if you receive this message don't automatically assume you have been rejected.

The mid-december message is automatic for those who are waitlisted. Yet, in your case, its already past mid-december. Just keep sending stuff and hopefully you'll get a spot.

I got that last year and was waitlisted. I doubt it changed...

my son got waitlised, a surprise I might add. His advisor called and she said because he was late in applying in comparison to the vast majority of students and missed the priority deadline it did somewhat limit his chances, his SAT's are way above the median but his GPA is on the lowish side. The advisor sounded hopefuly to my sons advisor so we will keep it as an option. n a month or so he will email them to let them know whether or not he wishes to remain on the waitlist but his advisor said if its his first pick (it is not) then he should say that, we will see. From what I understand rejections appear online or they say nothing other than you will hear in a week or two. Either way good luck, as it was explained to my son, the longer an app. is complete, the less chance there is relatively speaking, because the majority had them in, in early Nov.

I do no see this as a waiting list, but rather a deferal. In a waiting list a spot could be given to you if one opens up. This situation calls for IU to make another decision at a later time.

ctmom--I'm also really surprised he was deferred given his SAT scores. I know IU looks at GPA and rank very closely, but I really thought he would be in given the SAT's. Especially given some of the posters on here that were admitted with lower SATs (but higher GPA's)

In Bloomington many of the hs students think of IU as their safety school, but it's changing quickly. D will definitely be applying early next fall, even if she doesn't want to go there.

I was speaking with a business professor last weekend. He said they are really, really pushing for the best students (not just in the business school) to get the rank up.
