Not applying for financial aid?

Is it true that if you don't apply for financial aid, then you have a higher chance of getting into a college?
(P.S. I am new to CC so can anyone tell me where people posted their stats and statuses for early decision? Thanks!)

To answer your second question, you can find the results threads for the Ivy League schools by clicking the “Ivy League” link on the left side of your screen and the school you’re looking at.
For any other school (top 30ish), click “Colleges and Universities” and the corresponding school.

Okay, now to answer your first question. It depends. Go onto the schools’ websites and if they say “need-blind” then not applying for FA will have no effect on you. If they don’t say need blind, then chances are not applying will help you.

it will help if you apply to private colleges that aren’t part of the “need blind and meet 100% need for 100% applicants” and public colleges out of state, especially states where universities got budget cuts - although those may be need blind too, just not meeting need. Most universities and LACs ranked 35-40+ take financial need into account to a certain degree.

I’d like to see some evidence of that. Since most publics and all CCs don’t take need into account (the price is the price) I don’t believe that statement.

If a college specifically says it is need blind in admissions, you can pretty much go with it, though, yes, some have lied. Most colleges are need blind, by the way, as they don’t have time to sit there sifting though fin aid apps and trying to figure out what’s what. But them most colleges are not very selective anyways.

The issue comes to the forefront with those selective school, some of which provide very good financial aid Some even guarantee to meet full need (as they define it). In order for them to stick to that guarantee, some of such school have to be need aware as they have a limited amount of money to work with and it simply does not stretch for everyone they admit on a need blind basis. You can out and out ask a school’s admissions office if the school is need blind in admissions, and they will most often tell you right out.

The problem with not applying for aid by the deadlines the schools give, is that if you wait till you are accepted or even for later years, you may not get full need met. The schools that are need aware well know the games people pay with not applying for aid that first year and trying to get it later. So do keep that in mind.

But most schools are need blind, But they don’t meet full need either. They just gap.

Most schools are need blind for US permanent residents and citizens; though you should check each school’s website to make sure However international students are sometimes penalized for applying for financial aid.
