i have a related question. is it possible to go to drunk parties and just hang out around people who are drinking without drinking anything yourself? could you be like a designated driver or something? or would it take more willpower than i'm imagining?

Yeah, it's not a big deal. I'd usually limit myself to one or two drinks a night, so I'd be lucky if I'd even catch a light buzz and nobody ever cared.

I think you've been given pretty good advice, that at a large university there will be all kinds of people, including people who don't drink (or don't drink much). However, the social scene does differ from one campus to another, and it's worth knowing more about the school. How much does the social scene revolve around parties with alcohol? What is the Greek scene (if any) like? Are there lots of clubs (drama, music, outdoor outings, etc.) that don't involve drinking? How strict is the school in enforcing laws against underage drinking? (If it's fairly strict, that may work in your benefit, because nobody will be drinking as much.)

I've never had alcohol. Nobody cares if you don't drink, anyways. A lot of the people that used to drink a lot have stopped. It isn't something forced anymore.

I living in a wellness hall a good idea for those who don't drink/do drugs?

Definitely not.

There was a thread about it a few months ago, if you can find it you should give it a read. Generally, "substance free" or "wellness" dorms are a bad idea.
