Not Graduating College On Time

I am an accounting major who just finished my 4th year out of the 5 year program. The board requires a minimum of 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA Exam in my state. I am currently doing a co-op at a large national CPA Firm, which will last until December. Afterwards, I have an internship at a Big 4 Accounting firm starting next January and will last until late-April. As a result, I will not have any time to take classes. These internships will push my graduation date by a year so I will graduate in 6 years instead of 5, and I will be almost 25 years old (started college at 19, right after high school).

However, my uncle (a CPA) told me that I will have more experience and possibly a job offer at the end of this. He also told me that its better to graduate later with a job offer than to graduate early or on time without a job. He has told me stories of college graduates being underemployed or unemployed due to lack of experience.

Does it matter how long it takes one to graduate from college?

In your case, no!

Heck no! Take the internships. They’re solid gold, worth more than equivalent time in grad. school to both potential employers and, more importantly, your understanding of what the job really entails.
Congrats on landing such excellent opportunities!
