Not having a portfolio- any tips?

heyo, first post here. i am a rising senior. i hope to major in acting. the only thing is i do not have any portfolio. i planned to make one last year, but corona happened so i could not do a club. my school wants us to apply to 5 colleges by october so i really only have this summer to do something.

i should be fairly ok academics wise (1380 sat, about 60 college credit hours, around a 3.8-3.9 gpa), i just do not have a portfolio. i am hoping to apply to usc and uta (those are my main ones, but i will apply to much more). i was just wondering if anyone has any tips on either how to make a portfolio quickly or how to get by with none. thanks!

What acting have you done thus far?

Do you have the finances to hire a coach? If you want to apply to bfa programs and do not have a lot of experience you may find that very helpful. You do not need a portfolio but will need to make prescreen videos to send to schools and working with someone to figure out a list of schools that are appropriate for you and make those videos will be very helpful.

barely any to be honest. i was in a play in 8th grade that i loved, and i did a talent show in 10th grade. i was excited to get back on the stage in 10th grade, but that was the most i was able to find

hm, im not sure if i could get a coach. theres a subreddit (r/actingclass) i could probably ask for advice in

Go to each school and see their requirements. Look to your local theater and see if there’s any productions or classes coming up.

Or think about colleges that allow non acting majors to take classes.

Think cost of schools as well.

Without any acting experience, it may be hard to get into a highly rated BFA program.

look at the acting and musical theatre groups here. you will see what is expected and the preparation involved, good luck
