Not intrested in politics = American not for me?

I have heard that students at American are extremely passionate about politics, which is logical given the location of the school but I was wondering if there is room for the essential indifferent on campus

princetonreview said that it was one of the more political campuses around. Lot's of protests and alot of political shmuz. Tehran U probobly has more activism in it but American is still pretty far up there.
I heard that during a frat party some political figure died and like half the party left to watch CNN.

I am also looking at AmericanU and i am pretty conservative when it comes to most politics (i soften up when it comes to social issues) and I am not interested in a completely liberal campus.

If someone could shed a little light on this it would be cool. :D

Groenveld9 - I love politics, and I will be attending AU next year, but I am pretty conservative. I've heard that most are pretty liberal, but that doesn't mean that the campus doesn't have any conservative people!

nice... i do like discussing with liberals. It's fun and healthy and i always win.. hihi

There are some pretty mindless liberals here. The number of conservatives here are few. But they are usually the biggest asses, too. I have a feeling they're overly pompous because there are so few of them. If you hate liberals, don't go here.

Conservatives are few. Liberals dominate the campus. But as long as you are an intelligent conservative and can logically support your views, intelligent liberals will not mind your political stance. There are some mindless political enthusiasts at AU, so just watch out for them and you will be fine.

Nobody forces anybody to participate in political activities, so if you are not interested in politics, you can definitely stay away them. I'm a political moderate myself and don't usually get worked up about political issues often. I don't feel out of place at all.

The heightened interest in politics on the AU campus is actually one of the features that attracted my daughter to American. She devours Time, Newsweek, the New York Times OP/ED columns, and The New Republic. Her politics are liberal, although on the moderate side. As long as they're intelligent and thoughtful and she actually enjoys engaging in discussions with people with different political perspectives.

Are there alot of mindless liberals and pompous conservatives at AU or do they just stand out alot ?

I think its more that they stand out alot, than that there are many of them. It seems the dumber the argument, the louder and more obnoxious they are. Quick Example, One girl was telling us her views on abortion. She said, (honest to god) "anybody who is against abortion is not worth respecting." I am a pro-choice kinda guy, but even I thought this girl was nuts. This one story doesn't represent the whole population of AU, but you get the point.

md - I see your negativity is spanning across all threads. Did you ever think it is just you? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You will find this at all college campuses and in your future business choices, not just at AU. You are going to have to get a stronger backbone if you want to succeed in your future. You seem to have lost your way and struggling with the social and academic environment at AU.....but it will follow you if you don't become more open minded. Relax and stop griping so much!

i am staying out of that one... (thanks for for your answer md)
