I dont know why but I always assumed Colgate, being such a recognized insitution, would be need blind. However, while reading its FA borchure I saw that it was not!

My family income is pretty low, will this hurt my chances?

Oh and I was wondering -If I get into HEOP ( I will probably be considered for it) will Colgate provide me with a better FA package? I was looking and the highest package they seem to give is $42,337 out of its $50,000 total cost. I know this is a very generous amount but for my family even paying $8k a year is a lot. :/

They try as hard as they can to be need-blind, but it’s just not possible yet. Many similar schools are not able to be need-blind at this point. What happens is that they are essentially need-blind for as long as possible into the admissions process, but when it’s getting down to the wire and there’s not much financial aid money left, then they take it into consideration. So it’s impossible to say if it will hurt your chances - it might, it might not. Depends how the process goes and where you fall in the applicant pool.

All of their financial aid is need-based, however, and they will meet 100% of demonstrated need for accepted students. In other words, if they accept you and your family can’t pay more than $5k per year, then that’s what they’ll pay.

I don’t know anything about HEOP, maybe someone else can help with that.
