Okay so my first year I went to college as an Illustration major, and got around a 2.5 gpa on two trimesters. However on the third trimester I realized I wanted to change my major and so I tried some other courses, but some things happened and I ended up failing that trimester. So I transferred to a local community college as a liberal arts major and took two summer classes and my gpa for that was a 3.65 and now I'm finishing up my first semester and am expecting around a 3.0 gpa. My highschool gpa was around a 3.6 and I had slightly above average SAT/ACT scores. So I was wondering if you had any advice you could give me about what I should do, and what are my chances of transferring to a 4-year college? Will my stint as an Illustration major and having a low gpa in that major hurt my chances drastically? And will my one trimester of failing my courses prevent me from ever being able to go to a good school? Thanks!

Keep working hard, get your AA, and then transfer. You will need to wait to apply until your final CC semester. You might even apply but admission will be based on your completed AA and final GPA. Many State U’s accept applications, wait to decide until your final semester is complete, but are set up so you can go to orientation and then begin classes immediately at the start of the next semester.
