@2plus2ition Thank you so much for your sharing your own and your daughter’s experiences. While I know it’s not all roses and sunshine at ND, posts like yours ^^ help a lot when sending him an ocean and half a continent away.
Also, re: South Bend specifically, S and I visited a couple of summers ago and I must admit, he was not too keen on the city (though of course it must be different during the school year). But I’ve heard only good things about Mayor Pete and I’m eager to see how he moves SB forward.
My S received the magnet last week, and we assumed that all accepted students got one. He also received an invitation to the Reilly Spring program, but could not attend, and was just waitlisted for the Glynn Honors program. If he had been invited to the Honors program, the deal would have been closed today!
Glad to hear that random students at ND seem to be happy about their experience. We didn’t talk to any current students while visiting–it was so cold, wet, and windy outside that students were hurrying around the whole time, and so were we:)
Too bad we weren’t there the following weekend; we heard it was 70 degrees!
It was beautiful. Mom, who was hoping for a school closer to home, was a little miffed that the weather was so nice. She was hoping for a blizzard so he would choose UCLA. LOL.
Was the ND magnet a nice touch for the RD-accepted kids only, or did REA-accepted kids get it too?
REA received it too.
@irishgal1909 Thanks for your reply. My son was admitted REA, but no magnet. He has not yet confirmed enrollment with ND, however.
Hmm…I admit to magnet envy. @suzy100 Do you think that since that our kids have “pressed the button” for ND the honeymoon is over? :))
@hafamama I have spent almost 18 years teaching my son that comparing himself to others will generally lead to dissatisfaction, but I too admit to “Magnet Envy.” My kid hasn’t even pushed the commit button yet, so apparently button-pushing is not the deciding factor.
Where’s the love, ND?
My kid just pushed the button very recently, so I don’t think that’s it. The plot thickens.
The magnet wow’d my wife and I . My D didn’t seem to care (or at least pretended to not care) She wouldn’t let us put it on the fridge! But she is funny that way, like the attention but doesn’t want to look like she likes the attention. It seems to be a new thing because our other D who is already there didn’t get that a couple of years ago. ND is the best at the sell and the close. ND wasn’t even on my oldest list, we just toured because we were in the area and she was sold. The local ND club also plays a big part–we have had a fair amount of contact from them during both kids app/decision process
I now have a member of the family. My son committed this week. BTW, my meeting with FA yielded a little more help. My case was that they were above my EFC. The advisor asked “if we can get closer to the EFC number, would that help?” I said anything will help. They were very nice during the meeting. Very happy for my son. ND is a great fit for him. GO IRISH!
Congratulations @usma87! I’m glad they worked with you. Go Irish!
@usma87 Congratulations! Great news!
