Notre Dame Class of 2023 REA Thread

I still really wish they could send an email with the actual date so it isn’t so nervewracking! My friend who applied early to Columbia received an email today that decisions would be released on a specific day. I guess maybe ND isn’t giving a specific date because they are probably dealing with an influx of applications. @doctorunusual yeah, I think any day next week could be fair game, especially if they don’t give us that early email.

@sj2009 I think the influx has been over for EA apps. I’m sure they pretty much know who’s in and maybe are just deciding on the deferrals/gateway kids. Just my opinion.

This is somewhat off topic, but you can sign up for daily Gospel readings at faith.nd.edu. Reflections are by members of the ND community. From today’s reflection: “There are pivotal moments in our lives when what we ask may not be answered in the way we hoped.” A timely reflection for those of us, both parents and students, who are on this thread!

Hey! I agree, especially because the original email specifically states: “Decisions will be released in mid-December for Restrictive Early Action. You will receive an email notification when decisions are released.” This indicates we will get the email for decisions, since they have given us the rough dates we could find out!

So should we be expecting an email today or only an email telling when decisions are up? I am getting very anxious. My forehead is breaking out with stress acne right about now…

@dancegirl28 I suspect an email next week with results. As I and others have said, what’s the point of sending an email to say you’re getting an email ? but honestly what do I know??? It’s just a guess.

I always end up reading these posts in AP Statistics and freaking out! I just wish we had a firm release date!

Is there anyway to set up an alert for the email? This way we’ll be notified when it comes in and we can all stop checking. Ya know, kinda like a “this is an alert. If it was an actual emergency” blah blah blah. This sounds like an excellent idea ?

Based on previous admission cycles, one should expect an e-mail to go out to REA applicants a few days before final decision results will be posted online on the Applicant Status Pages. An example message text from previous years, which may or may not be the same this year:

"Dear …,

We are writing to remind you that admission decisions will be released by mid December for Restrictive Early Admission. We will advise you via this email address when decisions have been released.

In preparation for the mid December release, below please find a link to Your Applicant Status Page. Decisions will be available via this Status Page in mid December.

Please click on Your Applicant Status Page and enter your previously established password. If you have forgotten your password, you will have the option to reset it. Any questions or problems, please contact us at admissions@nd.edu for assistance.

Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Notre Dame.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions University of Notre Dame"

Hope this is helpful. Best of luck and success to All!

I still think there is a good chance they will get the email tonight. My son got his ND Summer Scholars acceptance email on a Friday night, so it could happen. My son who is a freshman at ND got the email on Dec 6th last year - it basically just gives you info on how to get into your portal when decisions do come out. The waiting is brutal!

@aspen22 That’s right. Few students use CC or other applicant forums and it certainly makes sense for Notre Dame Admissions to send out a heads-up message a few days before decisions will be posted, in order to avoid mass confusion on decision day. Congratulations to your First-Year ND student!

Thank you @hpcsa. He loves it!

@doctorunusual I am a parent and had the same question. I was told the high school counselor will not allow a student to apply to more than one college ED or an REA school and an ED school. I’m not sure how larger schools keep track of all that, if that information is actually true.”

The systems in place with the Common App and also the HS GCs make it pretty close to impossible for a kid to apply to two schools ED. Also, the ED rules are quite simple – you get only one.

The systems are not set up to police (i) the interaction between ED and the various flavors of early action (unrestricted EA, REA, SCEA, etc. etc.) and (ii) among the various flavors of EA. GCs and kids just have to police themselves on this (and typically do a good job). The key thing is that folks have to read the rules of BOTH schools to make sure the applications are permitted.

But every year on these boards you see kids (usually unwitting but sometimes not) asking questions about two schools they’ve applied to early where it is clear their early apps at those two schools break the rules. Given the variety of the EA rules (and the variety of exceptions to those rules), it is bound to happen.

@northwesty I’m likely a bit more jaded than you. I think some students (and their parents) know full well the rules but do it anyway.

I agree that they will likely send an email out 5-7 days before posting decisions just as they have in prior years. My prediction is that it will be sent tonight around 8:30 pm, and that the decisions will be posted next Friday at 6:42 pm. I hope I am wrong and that the decisions are posted sooner though!! The waiting is sooo difficult!

@WineLover if I remember correctly your S’s stats are almost near perfect so I wouldn’t be worrying too much.

@HM0527 there is always reason to worry! My S really has his heart set on ND, so he would be devastated if he were denied. He worked very hard for this moment and can almost taste it. Although he did get a very good ACT score, my concern is that they may view the rigor of his junior year courses as not strong enough (only 2 AP classes and some honors). And with the projected increase in applicants, you just never know. It is so unpredictable. In a sense, I think it is harder to deal with the rejection when your scores are so good. There would be a big question mark as to why they didn’t want him. This is his only reach school…and it’s not about prestige or anything like that – it’s about being somewhere where he feels he is at home.

@WineLover I ? agree but Idk I have a good feeling about your S getting in. I have always heard schools look at what take as far as classes based on what the school makes available to the student. My D only took two last year as well only because that is what was available. I wish all the best to your S and all those that have been a big sounding board for me the last couple of months. I forgot who said it in this feed but they made a good point. In the end, if the decision is a rejection, nothing has changed in their life. They will still have the same parents and siblings and will still be the exceptional, kind and service orientated kid.

If we don’t get an email in the next hour, it will be a long 7ish days.

For what it is worth, I agree with @sj2019 and @HM0527 (see posts #257 an 258) on the elusive final mail. I talked to my cousin tonight. He applied REA last year and said that he received three emails before decisions: 1. Sent right after early application deadline and basically read “we received”; 2. Sent mid-Nov and read something like “your application is complete” … but NEITHER had portal link or instructions; 3. Sent on Dec. 6 said something like “reminder that decisions mid-Dec” and included portal instructions. So, it seems to me like the process is different this year. Our first email in early Nov basically said “we received” but also had portal instructions. Our second email said something like “application complete” and “decisions will be released mid-Dec.” So I am no expert and don’t have any insider information, but I think the next thing we all hear from ND is a decision mid-late next week and I really hope it is good news for everyone.
