Notre Dame Class of 2023 REA Thread

@HM0527 No, there is no disadvantage, related to ND Admissions, from not submitting FAFSA. However, many ND scholarships, even academically driven ones, do have a need component and therefore the ND student will benefit from having a FASA and CSS Profile on file. This holds true even in cases where no immediate need based financial aid is expected, due to parent’s income and/or financial assets. @HM0527, my suggestion would be to wait until ND REA notification date and, then, in case of admission or even deferral, for the student to submit both the FAFSA and CSS Profile. Notre Dame often tends to refer back to this information, even for admitted students during the semester for summer program and other opportunities.

@katrina1 This is not a common occurrence, yet it does happen that ND Admissions reaches out to REA and RD applicants during the application process. If your question is in respect to interviews, Notre Dame’s policy is not to offer interviews. However, there are other reasons why ND Admissions might be reaching out to the student, which is why it will be a good idea for your daughter to check her e-mail and spam folder regularly.

@hpcsa thanks for the info. I was in the understanding that it was all for need based. Our D would get nothing with that being the main factor. It would be nice but it’s just not happening. I think a lot of parents think this way. As always, your input is so much appreciated.

@HM0527 you are welcome. As mentioned, there are several academically driven ND scholarships that do have a need component and therefore require the FAFSA/CSS Profile to be on file. In any case, your daughter will have no disadvantage from submitting the information.

hpcsa, I asked my daughter to check her spam folder as well as regular mail. She has only gotten contacted to be told her application is complete. HM0527, my nephew did not apply to Notre Dame. He wants to be in New England. My brother and I are just comparing experiences. Thanks.

@katrina1 Excellent, all success to your daughter and nephew!

@katrina1 I didn’t ask about your nephew??? I think @aspen22 did ?

Just FYI, I have two Ds who applied to ND and neither were contacted by someone from the admissions office prior to decisions being released. I’m not aware of anyone who was.

suzy100, That is reassuring. Thanks. HM0527, sorry about that.

Anyone have any ideas when decisions are released? I think it is December 13, but not sure.

@Yuj Possibly this year on Wednesday, December 12th, with Notre Dame Press release on Friday, December 14th . Best of luck! Last year’s news release: https://admissions.nd.edu/connect/news/notre-dame-admits-1-636-early-action-applicants-to-the-class-of-2022/

Is the release usually around the same time each year?

Yes, it’s typically the week that ND has finals but the day of the week has varied. Prior to 2016, the decisions weren’t available electronically - they came snail mail. In 2016 they were released on the 12th which was a Monday. Last year they were released on Wednesday the 13th. The decision will be available in the student’s portal starting at 6:42 pm. That’s military time for the year ND was founded, 1842.

@suzy100 awesome!! Wealth of info. I was reading the ND news and Mr. Bishop said, “Our admitted pool has again surpassed our prior class profiles with their academic accomplishments, but they were selected due to their motivation for scholarship as well as their exceptional levels of achievement in leadership and service. We are inspired by the creativity, humility, and ambition of the students who aspire to join the Notre Dame family.” what does the motivation for scholarship mean? Is he referring to applicants going after and chasing “scholarships” please excuse if this is the most simplest answer and I’m reading it wrong.

No, that’s not what he means. He means it in the sense of truly wanting to learn, being intellectually curious.

@suzy100 ???‍♀️? I thought that’s what he meant. Thank you!!!

Just to add on to what @suzy100 mentioned in post #92 above.

Notre Dame only began releasing REA decisions online starting with the Class of 2020.

So, there are 3 cycles worth of data available:

Class of 2020: REA decisions were released online on Mon, 12/14/2015, at 6:42 pm Eastern
Class of 2021: REA decisions were released online on Mon, 12/12/2016, at 6:42 pm Eastern
Class of 2022: REA decisions were released online on Wed, 12/13/2017, at 6:42 pm Eastern (not surprisingly, there were a lot of disappointed applicants on Mon 12/11/17, as last year’s REA applicants figured it would follow the same release schedule as the prior 2 years.)

In all 3 previous REA cycles, it appears that ND sent out an email 5-7 days before the decisions were posted alerting applicants that decisions would be posted in “mid December.” That only built the anticipation further.

In addition, in all 3 previous REA cycles, while the admissions decisions were posted online at exactly 6:42 pm Eastern, the email notification to applicants that the decisions were available came out about 10 minutes later.

Less than 1 month to go. Brutal waiting.

@GeronimoAlpaca If I were a betting person, I would put money on Wednesday, December 12th @ 6:42 pm for this year… Very best of luck and success to you!

I have read the ND midrange ACT score is 33-35 so absolutely dumb question…does that mean anyone with a 32 doesn’t stand a chance? All of this data is overload for me.

@HM0527 The average ACT score composite at Notre Dame is a 33. The 25th percentile ACT score is 32, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 34. In other words, a 32 places you slightly below average, while a 34 will move you up to somewhat above average. The average SAT score composite at Notre Dame is a 1490. Notre Dame’s admission review is holistic, GPA and test results are just two of several important considerations, however.
