@hpcsa last year was about 6,500?
@HM0527 Yes, REA applicant numbers tend to increase 10% year over year on average.
@hpcsa thank you for replying. Are you aware if the date is about the same for EA decisions?
@HM0527 you are welcome. The above expected news update date and application number estimates are for Restrictive Early Action results. ND offers REA and RD admission, of course.
@hpcsa REA (vs. EA) started at Notre Dame with the applicants for the Class of 2019.
REA application counts:
Class of 2019 = 4,700 applied
Class of 2020 = 5,321 applied
Class of 2021 = 6,020 applied
Class of 2022 = 6,598 applied
Thatās a compound annual growth rate of 11.97% for REA applications over the 4 previous cycles. If ND stays on trend, it would suggest that ND will receive about 7,400 REA apps this year for the Class of 2023.
Figure that the REA acceptance rate averaged out to 24.6% over the past 2 cycles. If that holds, about 1,820 REA applicants will be very happy in mid-December, with about 1,000 more deferred into the Regular pool.
I knew AP stats would come in handy for something. Good luck to all.
@hpcsa ??āāļø I didnāt even see the date in your post. Thanks again!!!
Excellent, thank you @HM0527 and @GeronimoAlpaca. Very best of luck and success to all!
My daughter loved Notre Dame so much that she is only applying to two colleges, and sheās already been accepted to the other one (main campus of state university). She applied REA to Notre Dame. I am reading through here and it seems like Notre Dame prefers students who really want to attend Notre Dame. My daughter qualifies. Any suggestions on how she can convey her interest? She has solid test scores and GPA but is probably weak on activities. ('m trying hard not to be a helicopter parent but would like her to take every opportunity possible to increase her chances of acceptance. Thanks!
@katrina1 You are asking how your daughter may best convey her interest in Notre Dame, after having completed and submitted her REA application to the ND Admissions Office? The answer, unfortunately, is that there is not much your daughter will be able to do right now, in addition to all the good and supportive information she submitted as part of her application. The ball is now in the universities court and admission folks are working hard on putting together the right ND class of 2023 from the REA applicants pool. They will be in contact with your daughter, should they need anything from her at this time. Very best of luck and success to your daughter!
@katrina1 I would agree with @hpcsa I think our kids have done all they can do. Would you mind posting your Dās scores? Stats?
1520 SAT. 34 ACT. Something like 3.96 GPA with a lot of AP classes. I know she is a solid candidate by the numbers, but what concerns me is that 2/3 of students with the high test scores got rejected. I have tried to get her to consider other colleges, and we have looked at several, but in the end she only wanted to apply to the local state university as a safety and Notre Dame. She thought she fit there. Sheās more of a science kid than a writer, so I guess Iām concerned about how well she wrote those essays. Thatās really what it comes down to. I appreciate what you wrote about how you have to trust in Godās plan for your daughter. I have to do the same!
@katrina1 wow!! Very impressive score. D only has a 32 (I say only because at times others will make you feel that way on CC) in the end I truly believe ND does not want a class of the same exact type of student. Different makes the world go round, right??? I told my husband this is the hardest thing weāve had to do. For 17 years weāve been able to help her with anything but this we can not. Itās definitely a test of faith what state school did your D apply to? Mine did nothing in state (MI) - Godās blessing on you and your family.
Thank you, HM0527! Our D applied to U of MN. It is a fine school. Her older sister got into Notre Dame and actually preferred the U of MN so that is where she went, and she enjoyed it. This D is more social and would much prefer the more social environment at Notre Dame. We donāt push our kids because we want them to make their own way in life, so we were hands off with the application process except for my pushing her to consider other schools. I did take her to Purdue and UW - Madison last year. She did some research online and requested we visit Notre Dame. A lot of it is the Catholic atmosphere at Notre Dame. There is a social organization for Catholics at U of MN, but itās not the same as chapels in every dorm and Masses Sunday nights in the basement.
One line I quote to the kids is, āAmerica is the land of second chances.ā I tell her sheāll do fine if she goes to the U. Itās hard to read the stats and see her using the ND backpack she got when we visited. I floated to her the idea of re-taking the SAT on December 1, and she said, āMom, Iāve done my best.ā Thatās really all we can ask of our kids.
Thanks for getting the decision date. Next week is Thanksgiving, so it will be busy. Then it is only a few more days! We can let each other know the results!
@katrina1 ? agree with everything you said. Looking forward to hearing from you and others with an acceptance!!
@hpcsa questionā¦do you think it looks bad if a student doesnāt apply for FAFSA? I know itās not an advatange as gas as acceptance but will a school look and think āthey must not be serious about coming hereā sorry for turning to you for answers but you seem so knowledgeable. Thank you!!!
I have a question as well! Does Notre Dame reach out and contact some of the students who applied REA before the notification date? A nephew applied EA to another college, and an alum met with him yesterday. Thanks!
@katrina1 good question!! Is your older D the only one on the family that was accepted into ND or is there a history with ND?
Just to explain, what prompted my question about contact with applicants before the REA notification date is that a nephew who applied ED to another college was contacted in part to ask if he had any questions.
I just counted: 24 days to December 11!
Our oldest daughter is the only one who applied of the three oldest children. The middle two were not academically motivated, let us say. We did not have them consider Notre Dame. In fact, we hadnāt really had our youngest consider Notre Dame. She is the one who came to us and asked that we take her to visit Notre Dame.
Did your nephew apply ED and then REA to ND? I thought they couldnāt do that. Just checking because my oldest son didnāt apply early to Duke so he could apply REA to Notre Dame.
