Notre Dame Class of 2025 Regular Decision

Need some help from the ND families. My daughter is down to the wire and needs to decide between ND and Purdue for aerospace engineering. She absolutely loved ND campus when we visited and had such an emotional reaction to the school, it felt like home. However, in doing some research she’s heard some ND students say it’s not diverse (in student body or thinking). My husband and I are lapsed Catholics and religion was not a large part of her upbringing. We hope as an adult, she’ll decide for herself what role she wants it to play. She’s a very independent, liberal and mature for her age. She’s worried she’ll outgrow the dorm community after a year or two and realizes it’s required for 3. She’s heard it described as “camp” and that is definitely not her thing. She’s a free spirit. Any advice?

ND offers a very diverse yet balanced liberal education, with an emphasis on distinguishing Socratic reasoning from sophistry. Those who enter ND on the fringe left/right rarely leave in such a state, not intellectually anyway (politics notwithstanding).

ND does a nice job introducing kids to different ideologies through abundant forms of academic disciplines. Very few institutions offer such. I graduated decades ago and encouraged my kid (who is liberal) to approach the decision to attend ND with this in mind. She just paid the deposit and will be on campus this fall.

The student body, on its face, will appear more homogenous than other schools, for a number of obvious reasons. The emphasis on critical, structured thinking, though, separates and distinguished ND from most institutions, so what may appear as a homogeneous body is anything but.

In my experience, an ND education is highly nuanced, which most students benefit from during and after their time at ND.

Purdue’s aerospace program is one of the best, so your daughter has spectacular options.

Best of luck!

As someone whose daughter is on the waitlist, pick Purdue. Jk

Aerospace? Purdue is not the cradle of astronauts for nothing. If you’re in state, no brainer to me. OOS? May be expensive, but so is ND.

Congratulations!!! We are on our way there now to see campus! Should be there later this afternoon.

Thank you. Your post is so reassuring. She’s made her decision and we’re thrilled she’s decided on ND. It just felt like home.

Thank you and good luck to your daughter!

Hi All!

Has anyone heard any information on the Notre Dame Waitlist? Seems like some people in this thread got offers of acceptance, but that was a few days ago and seems like it had died down since then. Any updates on whether they will give future offers of admission?

Also, does anyone have an information on their yield?

Thanks

I’ve been wondering the same thing. My guess is they accepted people on Friday and Monday off the waitlist because ND was already sure they wouldn’t fill up the class. Now I guess we will wait and see if they need more people after tonight.

Notre Dame did say in the waitlist letter that they expected to take 50-150 people off the waitlist, although I do not know how many already got off early. If they still need more, I’m guessing they will start to notify people next week.

Has anyone heard about any more people getting off the waitlist?

We got home last night around 1AM! When we finally made it to ND it poured rain for 2 days! We were so disappointed. We stayed the night at Morris Inn, hoping it would clear up the next day but it didn’t. The campus is gorgeous even in the rain. The hotel was AMAZING! Just wish there was a tour. My son did commit. Still can’t believe how many cities and miles we did over 5 days.

Anyone here got news about the Waitlist? I am waiting but I’ve heard rumors that some people already got off the waitlist before May 3rd.

I believe that they started calling April 23rd. My friend got her call on the evening of the 26th. Seems early so hoping that means that there will be more spots and calls later this week or next week

I’m getting scared about the lack of waitlist movement after May 3rd. Did ND already fill up their class?
