Notre Dame Merit Scholarships 2023

I tried contacting their office, but didn’t get a response :frowning:

It usually comes around the 20th, so we should at least know by the end of the week…

Hi everyone, I was just digging a bit and found that in 2017 the notifications came out on 2/20 and in 2018 they went out on 2/19. Both of those dates fell on President’s Day. And it seems based on the threads I found that the notifications come out around 9 pm. If I had to guess, it could very well be this evening! Good luck!

I guess it’s too late to come out today, then…

I just wish they communicated this more

Yeah, this is a little frustrating…hoping it comes out today at least. I need some good news!

I hope so too! But my guess is that they’ll probably let us know tomorrow night. After all, today’s a Thursday.

If I’m not chosen as a finalist, can I still consider myself virtually admitted?

@therealonessa Yes…if you were chosen as a semifinalist, you are among the top applicants to Notre Dame and you can expect a favorable word in March!

Nothing again! Any response from them @P2S20209

I really hope this doesn’t roll into next week

I remember going through similar anguish last year with my 2 DS. For ND especially, remember the Merit pool is extremely small. On the other hand, the “need-based” aid is very generous. While you would not qualify at flagship state schools for FA, at a school like Notre Dame you will get some aid. Hang in there.

@usma87 For some of us waiting for ND merit news, we don’t qualify for FA (and did not apply for FA) so the only hope to attend is with merit. My S19 has some generous merit offers from other colleges and is waiting on a couple of other elite ones but his first choice is ND. If merit comes through, he’ll definitely attend. If it doesn’t, he won’t. He’s hoping the finalist decisions are released tonight just to know one way or the other!

@jaffy25 I haven’t heard back from them, unfortunately. Maybe tonight?

It’s best to submit FAFSA and CSS even if you have high EFC. You might get some work study and small grants.

@vhopts That’s probably good information for people looking at this in the future, but too late for some of us now.

@Tea4Two Not necessarily. There is always an opportunity to put financial information on file with the Office of Financial Aid, if and when a family determines this to be a potentially advantageous move - irrespective of need-based driven submission dates. Again, this is not something that is being required for determined full paying families, yet eventually might turn out to have been a sensible move through a student’s Notre Dame career. Just my 2 cents worth…

@MagnoliaMom I am in the same position

@MagnoliaMom As you know, at highly selective colleges merit aid is a somewhat intangible route to pursue, due to the reasons @usma87 mentioned. Around three percent of admitted ND students receive limited merit aid, need-based financial aid is an option open to many more students - even for families with higher expected family contributions. In fact, several universities in ND’s peer group already do not offer merit aid at all and, ultimately, this likely will be the path going forward for Notre Dame as well in my opinion.

Thanks for the FA advice but we know for certain our family does not qualify so no need to submit FAFSA or CSS Profile. My S19 is purely looking at schools that offer merit. He was just notified he is a Danforth finalist at WUSTL in addition to two other very generous merit scholarships at his “match” colleges. He is also awaiting word on Vanderbilt merit and some others.

As for ND potentially dropping merit scholarship opportunities in the future, I hope not! ND only came on my son’s original list because it had possible merit. After much research and speaking with some current students, it is now his #1 choice. He would not have pursued it had it not been a merit possibility.

@JustLetMeInPlz Good luck to you and the others who are anxiously awaiting word on finalist selection!
