There are tons of ND graduates in the Northeast, that I know for sure.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are plenty in other regions, especially the west coast, as well.
My friend in FL has a neighbor that flies the ND flag on game days…they are alums.
I’d argue Knute Rockne, Lou Holtz, The Four Horsemen, Ara Parseghian or Rudy, but we can go with the alumni network too. :))
Seriously, plenty of ND (and Mich) alums in my “neighborhood” here in the SF Bay Area. Actually, I was driving to the City on Monday and saw a car with “Go Blue” and Wolverine helmet sticker on the trunk. I have not run into anyone from GA Tech though.
Exactly…that is what you always hear about ND…how powerful their alum network is! :-c
I live in the midwest, so perhaps my perception is distorted, but I have always grown up believing that on a National level Notre Dame is more highly regarded than either Michigan or Georgia Tech. I recognize that this is most likely a product of where I am from, but is there any truth is this? Also, since alumni networks have been mentioned, I am curious if anyone knows anything about Georgia Tech’s alumni network in comparison with either Michigan or Notre Dame.
GA Tech and Michigan are much more renowned in Engineering/STEM field than ND.
"’ Are you kidding? If there is one thing ND is known for, it’s the alum network.’
I’d argue Knute Rockne, Lou Holtz, The Four Horsemen, Ara Parseghian or Rudy, but we can go with the alumni network too."
OK, I knew as soon as I wrote that someone would post about football! (Some day, maybe, I’ll learn how to use the quote function.)
Ask anyone about the top engineering schools in the country and I imagine UM and GT would be on everyone’s list, ND not so much. You have a long list of schools prior to ND being mentioned - MIT, Cal, Stanford, CalTech, HM, GT, Cornell, UM, UW, CM, Purdue, NU, UT…so if the best engineering school is the priority UM or GT. If you simple didn’t feel that they are the right fit, go to ND.
I recently found out that I will have the opportunity to participate in internships during the summers because summer training generally lasts a little less than a month, and the dates for this training are quite flexible. With that said, I would love to participate in both a business internship and an engineering one. Do you think ND would provide similar access to these opportunities as the other schools?
Follow your instinct. You have a job upon graduation so that is really not a concern. GT is very intense and if you don’t have a lot of credits upon matriculation, graduating in four years as an engineering major can be difficult. I am a big fan of GT, but don’t pick a school on rankings. Pick the school where you will be happiest.
Georgia Tech’s alumni group is very strong and mechanical engineering is a top 10 ranked program as are many of their engineering degrees.
“Georgia Tech’s alumni group is very strong and mechanical engineering is a top 10 ranked program as are many of their engineering degrees.”
Ditto for Michigan
