So vandy will cost $60,000. You take $40k loans. Parents pay $20k.
Hopkins will cost $80,000. You take $50k loans. Parents pay $30k.
ND will cost $100k. You take $80k loans. Parents pay $20k.
Seems UMD is your parents desired choice for you. With Hopkins their second choice.

@ClarinetDad16 This is all accurate except ND, for which they are willing to pay close to $90,000 if I get into the honors program.
But you won’t know if you’re in the honors program by May 1st?
Are you willing to gamble 70k in debt on getting into that program? (Hint: The answer should be no.)

@usualhopeful I will know if I’m in by May 1st. Within tomorrow or Wednesday most definitely.

If I don’t get into the honors program, I will probably be choosing between Hopkins and UMD.
Can your family comfortably afford to pay 90k for ND?
I honestly don’t think you should be considering JHU with that amount of debt.

@usualhopeful I think ND is out of the question now. For me, it’s between JH and Vanderbilt with slight consideration to UMD. I can now comfortably afford both JH and Vanderbilt after some more discussion with my parents. 10k debt for each.

@usualhopeful Officially accepted to Notre Dame honors. I shouldn’t be swayed a bit, but I kind of am.
I’d take JHU over Vandy with that price difference.
Actually, I’d take UMD because it’s free and you’re in a nice program there.
However, whoever thinks that ND (or Vandy) has much of an international reputation should not be someone to take advice from.
