D21 has narrowed her choice down to Santa Clara and Notre Dame business schools. Huge price difference due to large scholarship offed by Santa Clara. Notre Dame will cost $45K more a year ($180K over 4 years) We can swing it without loans but a $180K opportunity cost by selecting ND over SCU is tough to swallow. D21 likes both schools, but is very intrigued by Notre Dame (well because it is Notre Dame)
Because you ask, and because you point out the very substantial difference in COA, the answer should be clear.
The question is - saying you went to Notre Dame worth $180K? If you’re Warren Buffet - sure. Santa Clara is a great school but doesn’t carry that level of respect (few schools do). If you’re anyone else, it’s a lot of money to spend. I work with UND people - they’re low level like everyone else.
I’m banking on my kid being successful due to her skills, abilities, and work ethic…I’m not counting on the college making her success.
i agree - ND isn’t worth 45k/year more than Santa Clara,
Congrats
I agree with the others. Unless you’re in fear of earthquakes or California’s wild fires, this decision should be a no brainer
And both are reasonable fears.
Yes, they are. Sadly.
Santa Clara was the choice! So far, so good. D21 is having a great experience so far with classes, professors and the social scene. Does not regret her decision at all. Phew!!!
Santa Clara is excellent. Great pipeline into the valley as well.
I’m happy to see this. We are proud parents of a Santa Clara grad. Kid LOVED her four years there.
The business school is very well regarded in the valley especially.
And unless you love frigid cold weather (ND), the weather is terrific year round.
