Hi all

just wanted to clarify whether Duke really waits for our nov sat scores.

I got a 470 in CR in jan which is just just terrible, and was extremely nervous whether my nov sat scores (650CR - still low but guess my app won't be trashed right away...) in time.

Now, I've heard that there are regional officers who can now reject some applicants at first read (according to new "duke policy"), and I'm now thinking my regional officer (+ I'm international) could have rated me badly and might have even cut me out right away, before receiving my nov score.

I know sat scores aren't everything, but when the score is like 470 smt i guess it does make a huge difference.

In my student portal the scores are already updated, but I'm just getting this feeling that I might have already been rejected before my score arrived..

Anyone here with the same situation?

hey there!

Almost the same situation, except that i gave the Oct 26th ACT and my scores were late.

My issue is that i never got the student portal log in details lol and i’m thinking that since i might already be rejected, my app automatically becomes low priority which is why no one cares about it anymore and so are not sending me the lon in info hahahahaha

^^^that is absurd lol

Here’s what i think really happens. i don’t think that the “new system” is fully implemented in ED.

They changed the system because they started receiving too many apps. in RD they get almost 30k apps, so it makes sense that they will try to reduce the number by using the new system, BUT, in ED, they only have around 3k apps (compared to RD it’s wayyy fewer) on top of that, the ED applicants basically say that Duke is their number 1 choice. so i’m guessing (and hoping) that this actually means something to duke and ensures that our apps are read…

Additionally, i think that the system is only used for extreme cases. Cases in which the applicant is obviously not competitive enough to have a shot to begin with. i dont think that just a low CR score puts you in that category. as long as the rest of your app is strong, i think that you do have a good chance :)

my case…i dunno :s on one hand i wanna get to the bottom of it, on the other if my regional officer is swamped, i don’t wanna annoy him/her further.lol

Please relax. There is no giant conspiracy theory in Duke admissions. If your scores are updated already, they have been received, and they are fine.

However, please also realize that the 25th percentile for the incoming class’s CR section was 690, so a 630 is significantly below the 25th percentile. If you are an international student seeking financial aid, your chances of admission are even smaller (5%). Regardless, you may have a chance-- but it is a small one, and assumes that the rest of your app is extraordinary, not just ‘good.’
