November 2008 SAT Discussion for International Students

So, so far i think i got one wrong in M just a stupid error

so what is the answer for the wrong assumption in the shakespear passage?

and for question in the governess
literary allusion?
why not symbolic meaning?

did u guys get 0.08 for a grid in question

it’s not literary allusion cuz it doesn’t allude to any literature
and it said power, fame, wealth and stuff it’s not symbolic of anything, it’s pretty straightforward
so it’s probz repetition

and anyone with 288 for a grid in question

no i dont think its repetition…power fame wealth are not identical
its overstatement, no?

hey wasn’t it other thing? how come I remember it as something else?
like fish, egg sth blabla

It said something like manumission which was what the answer had to be based on!

Yeah i thought it was overstatement too…

It is not repetition.
for overstatement, I don’t see any clue or hint.

Any body tell me what is the difference between literary allusion and symbolic meaning??

and which is the answer?

@ccprofile : yah i remember i got 288 also

I think symbolic meaning…i read this manumission in Word smart, Genius Edition :D…it means to free a slave…so it was symbolic meaning…and no, there was no allusion to literature!

what did you guys write for the essay question???

isnt literary allusion sth like giving some tool for reader to figure out happening that will happen afterwards? and symbolic is sth that has more meaning than the literary?

^Yes.

Was this one of the very last questions? I think I got something like “they were cooperating in fooling the hostess”

Literary means:
" 1. Of, relating to, or dealing with literature: literary criticism.
2. Of or relating to writers or the profession of literature: literary circles.
3. Versed in or fond of literature or learning.
4.
1. Appropriate to literature rather than everyday speech or writing.
2. Bookish; pedantic."

Allusion means to refer to…

oh, thanks!!! Flibb !!!
Thank you!!

Flomatkins I wrote the same!

IDK i wrote immediate outcome or benefit

It was obvious that they had fooled the hostess!
