November 2008 SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2

Yes, since they gave you #'s on the line you could calculate the range

Therefore - 1 & 3

1 & 3=D or E?
i remember wt letter i put but i don't remember wt i put
i think i either put D or E

The "x^2+2x+4=(x+2)^2+a(x+2)+b" question was -2.

x^2 + 2x + 4 = (x^2 + 4x + 4) + (ax+2a) + b.

Since we only have one term that is in the form of "Zx" where Z is a real rational number, it must be that 4x+"Zx" ( in this case, ax), 4x+ax=2x. So, -2. I think this is right.

Also, (-1.5,2) doesn't work.

Y>2*(-3/2)^2 -1. y>9/2 -1, y>7/2

7/2 = 2.5. so 2>2.5 no.

for the question that a lot of ppl are saying the answer was I & III, do you remember what # that was? in the 40-50? I'm trying to figure out whether I skipped that or not

^ OMFG I had a brain fart.

I put in a neg sign for -5.5 < 2 GODD ugh1!!!

I think it was right before the 40s...

for the a question? Can you just discount b like that? I understand your expansion but where did b go if you want to equate them to each other?

-2 is right.

Did anyone get (1, -sqrt(3)) as an answer for something about an equilateral triangle?
How about pi/4 for something about the probability of points a distance of 1 from the origin?

(btw, is this legal or not?)

@hipster: yea, I got both (1, -sqrt(3)) and (pi/4).

Yes, I got (1, -sqrt(3)) as the answer for the equilateral triangle. The points were (0,0) and (2,0) because 3x = 6 (perimeter given)

Then you plug both points into distance formula. While d=2 for some pt to pt, 1 sqrt3 was the only answer which satisfied both pts of a distance of 2

edit:

another probability question (chance that both are blue marbles, given red)

was 5/24 right?

And polar problem was some 306.6 thing?

can someone tell me whether the 1 & 3 std deviation/ range problem is D or E?

I also got (-1,sqrt 3) for triangle.

What about the circles tangent to each other. It asked for ''r'' of one of the circles. I got 1.73

I did get (1,-sqrt(3)). I skipped the other one.

lolilaughed:

in any two equivalent polynomials ax^2 + bx + c = dx^2 + ex + f,

a=d, e=b, f=c. always. So i used that same concept, you can just disregard b since we're only dealing with the "x"s. I can explain further but I have some work to do right now so I'll be back a little later.

Edit: ^^ rjacob, I think i got that.

I just did 3-sqrt(11). and then 2+(3-sqrt(11)). Whatever that answer is. It was around 1.7.

Wasnt the stndard deviation question

I. Set A has at least half points higher than Set B
II. Set A has a higher Standard Deviation than Set B
III. Set A has a smaller range than Set B

I got III only

^ I posted the I, II, III breakdown

The answer, I got, was I & III (my answer). I think the answer was E it was like:

I just remember seeing that since III must be true, the only options must be I and III or I only..

A. I only
B. II only
C. III only
D. II and III
E. I and III

^ i think

Yeah, the "r" one with circle I got 5-sqrt(11) = 1.73

Yeah but the graphs were like:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx---[||||||]--
-----[|||]--------xxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

wait, that's 1.68, isn't it??

Which one was the circle one? It was like x^2 + y^2 = 11 ? Then what was the question lol

Yeah it is. The answer was 1.7 (A, if i remember correctly..not too sure though). I don't remember putting 1.73 but idk. I'm pretty sure my method was correct

The question was
(x-3)^2 + y^2 =11. (x+2)^2 + y^2 = r^2. Find r.

Question: x^2-25/x^2-5x

what values of x are undefined. I got 0 and 5
