so im a bit nervous about graduating from CMU.. everyone says the grads go and do back office work. I want to do front ofice trading. Should i be thinking about transferring or should i stick with CMU and just prep a lot for the interview?(I am in no way one of the nerdy anti-social types)

I am an incoming frosh in some humanities scholar thing for 20 selected kid in the humanities school. I think i should either at least transfer to tepper or the school of compsci... which the honors program thing im in will help to do. I was also thinking about going after computational finance at CMU... a program limited to 10 kids per year you apply after soph year.

So which would be my best bet to get into front office trading? Transfer to stern or something like that, Comp sci from CMU, business from CMU, Computational finance from CMU, a combination?

please help I am getting nervous that all CMU grads go to back office.

hahah ohh come on CMU is one of the best Schools in the country... honestly do whatever YOU want... dont go into business if you dont like that.. or Computer science... if its humanities for you.. then go for it... obviously you're very bright... soo you should have no problem... dont let outter circumstances disuade you from doing something you want to do... more than likely, especially if you're not one of those "nerdy anti-social types".. .. you'll be one of the smartest guys in the office and will undoubtedly move up... and if not go work for the gov't.... really do what you want... the money will come.. but its important that the passion is there for your job...

I'm going to be a freshman at cmu as well. I'll probably double-major in econ/business admin though. I'm also interested in financial markets and I'm no social outcast haha glad to hear there's others like me. If you can devise a way to make significant money in the markets it won't matter whether you graduated from alabama state or harvard.

yea but it would be a ***** to make money by yourself playing the market right out of undergrad... very little, if any, money to invest.. and no experience.

i would like to work with the best traders and learn from the best firms and save up some money before i go off on my own.. it would probably easier to make a lot of money working with a firm because you have so much support
