If I don't need any aid , is it going to be easier for me to get into good, but expensive schools?

Yes and no. If you mean the run of the mill privates, YES full pay students are very attractive. However if you mean the expensive AND prestigious ones w/selective admissions, they don’t care or only little and you won’t get any boost.

what about the top 35 LACs? I mean I have 2050 sats and 3.6 uw gpa so my chances aren’t that good, but maybe little thiings like that could help me

Not the top 10, but if should get easier after that.

It will definitely be easier to get into most elite private schools in lieu of the present economic downturn. Even those claiming to be need blind now are not. College is still a huge business so just make sure you communicate to them you’re willing an able to pay the $50,000. When a university’s endowment has been slashed by 1/3 you know they are hurting. These times are an opportunity to reach higher than you normally would. Go ED to your reach school. Take a hint from Obama and don’t waste a crisis.

There was an interesting article in the New York Times about this very issue. They featured admissions at Lafayette. Try their website (was in Saturday or Sunday) . . .
