Not sure, not a science major. Heard good things though.

Really nice projector systems. Otherwise fairly standard. Desks reasonably roomy.

Library is really nice. 6 floors, lots of study/reading rooms, lots of computers, work desks, etc.

Computers are all pretty new/fast.

Depends on your college. I am in Will Rice, so I am in one of the new dorms, which has really nice rooms/facilities. They’re renovating or have recently renovated most of the other ones though (especially the north colleges.)

Campus is really nice. There’s lots of trees along the inner loop, the architecture of the buildings is cool, campus is nicely arranged. Also each college has their own little quad so you can play frisbee or football or whatever.

Hope that helps.

^ labs aren’t for science majors only. even liberal arts or humanities majors have science subjects in their curriculum. aside from that, english, mass communication, psychology, etc use labs to work on their majors too, e.g. speech lab and the like… but thanks for your post. :)

DS likes that he gets his own lab hood in chem. The new rec center is terrific.

Labs are awesome. I’m in pre-med Chem Lab and it’s much nicer than anything I had in high school. There is ample space, locked bins for your lab equipment, multiple chemical hoods, clearly marked shelves, lots of storage space, etc.

It’s hard to make a general analysis of classrooms. There are a few on campus that are kind of old and poorly lit. But, lecture classes are often held in beautiful rooms with comfortable chairs and lots of sunlight. Smaller classes are held in rooms with individual desks, great lighting, lots of technology available, etc.

FONDREN LIBRARY IS AWESOME. Not only are the facilities great, the librarians are great too. People really respect that the library is a study space, and you can ALWAYS find a quiet place to study. It’s easy to find the obscure books you want. Also, there’s a reading room on the top floor of Fondren with a beautiful view of the Academic Quad. There are also group study rooms that can be reserved and are soundproof. People genuinely like and take advantage of the resources at Fondren.

All the computer rooms I’ve seen are really nice and well-maintained. There’s a great IT office here who helps with a lot of students’ computing issues.

The dorms are very different depending on what college you’re in. I’m in one of the older colleges with what people think are “worse” rooms, but I have a full walk-in closet, and an open sunny room. All the room configurations are different but there are no bad rooms on campus.

There are so many trees here! It’s absolutely gorgeous. Rice is like a little oasis in the middle of Houston, which is always bustling with activity. The campus is sunny, active, and everyone says hi to each other. The campus isn’t that big so it’s hard to get lost—and there’s a great shuttle system which really helps with getting around campus quickly. There’s some construction going on right now which makes things tricky but other than that, I absolutely love this campus.

Hopefully this answered your questions. In my opinion, though, Rice is really comparable to many other universities in all of these areas. What makes Rice truly amazing is the strong sense of community and happiness brought on as a function of the residential college system =)
