NPC Changed?

Did the NPC in September, got one number. Did it a week ago, error. A few days later, error. A few days after that, error. Then, today it is saying 13k higher than September number. Identical numbers. We are EDing here. Is this a mistake?

It sounds like they changed their formula.

The error code could have been due to the history left from that initial visit that was throwing something off.

The mistake will be EDing if it is no longer affordable. BC does not give as much aid as other colleges.

All of these colleges have endowments invested in the stock market and other things that have gone down while the prices continue to climb for everything needed to run a college.

You should contact the financial aid office, because it could be that this is still an error and maybe it was unintentional, on their part, to raise the price. Asking here, will not give you any real answer.

We experienced this also! We ran the NPC in early September, and it came out almost affordable (it was about the same price as BU, just a couple thousand less). I just re-ran the NPCs as we are starting to think about college, for my junior, and BC was the highest of any I ran! I thought maybe I had inadvertently changed my numbers since early September, but regardless if I accidentally changed the numbers, it was now tens of thousand dollars higher than BU, for instance. :grimacing:

If you are planning to ED I would definitely call the financial aid office and ask about it. And maybe you could report back here what info you get?

Absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible that they changed it so late.

Have you contacted them to ask about the change?

Could you please change the title to “NPC net cost has changed”. You don’t have financial aid until you actually receive an offer from the school.

Us senior members can change titles. Woohoo! I just changed it.

Thanks for the heads up, OP. Boston College stayed off S23’s list because it was unaffordable for us. That was too bad, as he really would like to be in Boston near family. Due to the change in their formula, our projected cost has gone down quite a bit, so I’ve put it on the approved list. It remains to be seen if DS puts it on his list, as he’s stressed enough with his current applications.
