NPR: School board member talks Florida's block of AP African American studies course

I’m allowing this for the moment, with the caveat that the very first post that violates ToS will result in the thread being shut down.

For those interested in the political discussion on the topic, see the thread in that forum:

Thanks, @skieurope. I didn’t think to look there.

Here is a link to a download of the proposed course curriculum. I like that the course begins with an overview of the civilizations of sub-Saharan Africa before the transatlantic slave trade began. However, it seems to me that it would be difficult to assess the class curriculum without having read all the sources listed - a daunting task that really only a professor or all-but-doctorate PhD student in African American studies would be in a position to do. And then we have the whole notion that ONLY this AP class has been subjected to such scrutiny, not any of the others.

The College Board Strips Down Its A.P. Curriculum for African American Studies

After criticism from Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, the official course looks different: No more critical race theory, and the study of contemporary topics — like Black Lives Matter — is optional.
