Last summer I went to Russia with NSLI-Y. Goodluck with finishing up your application, if you have any questions - feel free to post them.

Not to sound like a broken record, Soresubject, but could you say how you formatted the letter? Did you address it with a salutation, e.g. “Dear?” And if so, to whom was it addressed? “Family”?

Just making finishing touches! I’m going to be submitting this on November 11 at 11:58, haha.

I also went to Russian with NSLI-Y this past summer. I addressed the letter, “Dear Host Family”. Good luck with finishing up the app!!

I didn’t start it with Dear Host family, because I figured it would be kind of obvious! Do what feels right

Just sent in my app! I put my choices as 1) Russia Summer 2) India Summer and 3) Chinese Summer.

oh and I also just started it with dear host family =)

Wow am I nervous about sending my app in! I applied for Tajikistan, Russia, and China (in that order) and I cannot possibly wait to hear if I am a semifinalist! Does anyone know approximately how many people get the scholarship to Tajikistan??

I think Tajikistan is like 18? I thought about re-applying for Tajikistan but I decided to stick with Russia

Thnx. But wow, that’s extremely competitive. Sorry if it’s too personal Soresubject, but since you got in, would you mind telling me what your activities, grades, and sports are like? You don’t have to be specific but just a general reference to see how I’d measure up to the NSLI-Y standards. Sorry if I’m being rude, I am just extremely nervous and curious!

Hey!
How many scholarships are awarded for Arabic and Korean? And what is the most deciding factor for getting in; the application or the interview?
Thanks!

honestly if you are genuiinely interested, have good grades, show talent in a language or languages, pursue extra cirrics that correspond, write good essays, and good rec’s you’ll get in.

Hey everyone again! Here’s a blog for everyone involved with NSLI-Y program this coming summer. I hate to risk sounding like I am trying to sell something so I won’t say more!
[summer of dragons](http://summerofdragons.blogspot.com/)
But anyways, good luck everyone with applications today! I finally clicked the submit button last night and it was traumatizing and a breath of fresh air all at once. :)

noooooooo! It deleated my entire application and i was just going to turn it in!!! Has this happened to anyone else???

JUST submitted my app!!!
3 hours before it was due xD i didn’t procrastinate that much, but i’ve been doing severe edits since i got home from school paranoid and whatnot
anyway i really hope i get it!!!
i applied for:
- china-summer
- turkey-summer
- south korea-summer
was anyone else really PO’ed by the 100 word limit on the explanation of why you chose those countries/durations?

hahahha yes! Same with the 250 word essays! Honestly I cannot express my comprehensive thoughts on something as big as studying abroad and why I want to go and where in such a tiny amount of words. But I understand that if they didn’t have a limit, then people would write entire novels about their life and reasoning and then reviewing the applications would take forever. So I’d rather challenge myself to write something short and thus find out sooner if I’m a semifinalist!

Mine’s submitted as well!

Arabic

Russian

Turkish

I really expressed my indecisiveness in my program preference explanation. I hope they don’t hold this against me! (Haha, now to wait…)

Success!! Reput in all of my information and finally finished filling out the form again whew! Submited it this afternoon:) My choices were all year long, China, Eygpt, and Korea :D

hey everyone,

the little green thing in your application (after you submitted it) does it indicate eastern or pacific time? because my says 2:54 a.m but I am sure this is eastern time right?

was the green thing that says “time submitted” is that the eastern time?

When did you actually submit it? And what timezone are you in? It was due 1159 pst so as long as you’re before that, you’re golden

The time submitted thing is indeed in eastern time. I’m not even sure that it would’ve let you submit if you were late?

I noticed that I forgot to select whether I was still participating in two (minor) clubs, but besides that, everything’s fine. I guess I can live with that one little error!

Now, to wait…haha
