NSLI-Y Program.

itsajourney: Congratulations! Hindi was my second choice; do you think that they are still sending out notifications for the Hindi program? Does the NSLI-Y notify you of all the programs you applied for at once, or is it one at a time? Sorry, I know that’s a lot of questions.
sr5991: No, it’s not only you, the anticipation is killing me! I really want to get this study abroad opportunity.

My dad called to ask that question and they basically told him that if you haven’t heard, they haven’t come to a decision yet. Or at least that’s what they claim. Maybe its done by region? or age? I don’t know. If I hear anymore info i’ll post it here. =)

Yes, I can vouch for chewy! I was actually one of the nsliy 2010 Korea semester participant and two of the girls in the program were actually alternates and got the scholarships that others gave up! So, remain hopeful! People do give up the scholarships for various reasons!

Has anyone from the Delaware/Pennsylvania area heard anything yet?

@Nagela, for acceptances, they only only address the program you were accepted to, which was my first choice… and I’m from Pennsylvania. I got mine in March 15

So I’m incredibly confused right now. The website [How to Apply](How to Apply - National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)) says that the application for the 2012-2013 year is closed. What is this referring to? Is it referring to the academic year program or the summer program? What if I’m going to be a sophomore when school starts and I want to do this program after my sophomore year? If the deadline already passed, that’s really early.

That’s for the academic year. Keep an eye on the website, though, because I think the summer applications are due by 10/31 or 11/1.

I just found this forum! I’m applying to NSLI-Y for the 2013 summer and was wondering when the application would be up.

The application is up now.

finally a note regarding the application:

Hello!

I’ve applied for the 2013 NSLI-Y Summer program and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any stats regarding the acceptance rate? My first choice is Chinese (summer) and my second is Any. (summer) Stats from past years are just fine!

Thanks!

Just found this threat. I applied for Turkey(Summer) as my 1st preference and Arabic as my 2nd choice

I applied for Arabic summer and Chinese summer as my second choice. I’ve heard that even just to be a semi-finalist it’s cut in half though, so chances aren’t great. I’m waiting impatiently!

Hi everyone! I’m a Senior, and this is my second year applying. I got to the interview part last year, but sadly, got rejected after! So 500% this year! Did anyone else apply this year?
Arabic was my first choice, Turkey second, and India 3rd! :)

Hi!
I applied to the program this year as well and listed Turkey as my first choice and Chinese as my second. I was also wondering if we know any news on statistics, like how many semifinalists there are and how many finalist they are taking.

I was selected as a semi-finalist! I applied for the summer program China being my first choice, Korea being my second and Russia as my third.

Which state do you live in? I heard applications are reviewed and semi-finalist notifications are sent out by state, but maybe that’s just a rumor.

Yes, it is sent out by state. They came out already?!?!? Congratulations ninadasiy!

Thank you Nagela! And I live in Virginia.

Yea I’m a semi finalist as well, and I live in DC. I found out like last Friday.
