I am 37 years old. I have served in the US Army for the last 17 years. I have a BS in Physics and Math and now I plan to go to graduate school for Nuclear Engineering. I plan on getting a Masters and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering. My interest lies in Nuclear Weapons Designing. I plan on working in the Livermore or Los Almos Lab as a career in the filed of Nuclear Weapons Engineering.

Do you guys know which school should I attend to specialize in Nuclear Weapons Designing within the nuclear engineering field?

I'm not completely sure about Nuclear Engineering but I doubt that universities will offer an explicit "Nuclear weapon designing" track.

Instead, your best bet is to attend a nuclear engineering program with close ties to Livermore, LANL and maybe Oak Ridge, and then pursue funding/fellowships within these labs (such as http://www2.krellinst.org/ssgf/).

Another possible lead would be to pursue an internship position at Pantex.

Thanks nshah!

Any other suggestions/advice guys?

Find a subject to earn your PhD in then decide if you want to pursue defense work. Such fields could be fluid or solid mechanics, materials science, plasma physics, ect. AFIT or the Naval Post Graduate School could be good options for military background.

The field you suggest is not something that is taught in school.
