I am currently a sophmore and I am having trouble determining how many AP’s are too much. I would like to go to an Ivy League school, so i know i need to take a lot of AP’s but how many?
as of right now, i am considering…
AP Statistics, AP Psycology, AP Biology, AP English, AP Computer Science, AP US History.
Short answer - it depends. Some people sail through 4, others struggle with one. Keeping in mind that you will need to prepare for SAT/ACT and be doing some EC’s, if you are a high performing student, 4 is probably the max.
Additionally, you should not double up on a subject at the expense of another core subject: 3 maths, and 2 history/social sciences but no foreign language is not advisable for Ivy League schools, unless you are currently completing level 4.
Take Honors Chemistry instead of AP Psych. You’re expected to have biology, chemistry, and physics at an Ivy, and Psych is not a core class; you can take it senior year if you really are interested in it. AP Biology usually assumes prior knowledge of high school chemistry, so keep that in mind, as well.
Save AP Stats for senior year or take statistics in college, as well. If you haven’t done so already, take an upper-level foreign language course instead; Ivies recommend four years of a foreign language. Four APs should be plenty, and the four remaining APs are all pretty substantial in terms of rigor.
