While filling out the Common App I stumbled upon this listing, “Number of AP Tests you wish to report, including tests you expect to take.” Currently, I have taken 6 tests: World History (5), Studio Art: Drawing (3), US History (5), English Language and Composition (5), Psychology (5), and Statistics (4). I will be sending all of these scores to the colleges I’m applying to. I am taking 5 more AP courses next year (my senior year) but I don’t know if I want to spend the money on the exams if the school I go to doesn’t take AP exams. Should I take these 5 exams and should I write that I am planning to take them in my Common App if I am not sure?
For the application, list the 5 you are planning to take. If you decide next year not to take them, it’s not like the college will require you to take them. That said, be aware that next year, AP exams are ordered in October/November, so you may have to register for the exam before you submit the application.
You do not need to send your scores when you apply. You can just put the scores on the Common App and then send (if they want them) to the school you will be attending.
- It is good to send the ones you have taken.
- Colleges will see your transcript so they will know if you are in AP classes.
- I recommend taking the APs even if they don’t count for anything. You will get a lot more out of what you are learning if you plan on taking the AP and will remember a lot more a year later.
- I think you should say you plan on taking them.
