Number of Freshmen Accepted to Wertheim College of Engineering?

Has anyone seen a breakdown of how many students were accepted to the Wertheim College of Engineering in the freshman class?

This is the only breakdown I have seen regarding the 2023 class.

Here is a fact sheet but not specific how many for 2023

@Luska19 Thanks so much! I may call admissions tomorrow to ask if they have the numbers for the class of 2023. Congrats on your acceptance!

@Doublekk2 Anytime! If I come across anymore stats I will post them. Thank you.

In 2018, it was 1,674.

http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/8045/screen/19?school_name=University+of+Florida

It was about 24% of all incoming Freshman. However, by the time they graduate (and UF takes in junior transfers into the other majors, students switch majors), engineering will only make up about 13% to 14% of all BS graduates.

Fun Fact.
In 1999, it was 821 students and the middle 50% for SAT and ACT (combined) was 1140-1320 and 24 to 30.
In 2018, it was 1,674 and the middle 50% ACT test scores (can’t find the SAT) is 28 to 33.

EDIT: Since UF doesn’t consider major, the middle 50% test scores should be similar to the overall freshman class (self selected engineering majors do tend to have better test scores). The overall (accepted not enrolled) 2023 freshman class: SAT score of 1364 and an ACT score of 30.

Thanks so much, @Gator88NE! In my searches, I found a Wikipedia page that indicated that there are a total of 5,800 engineering undergrads at UF. Assuming that number is accurate, I figured there are roughly 1450 students per class.

Thanks for including the stats, too. Very interesting. Many thanks, again, for your response!

6500 undergrads according to the UF ASEE college profile page.

https://profiles.asee.org/profiles/8045/screen/20?school_name=University+of+Florida

If you use the above link to the ASEE program profile, you see there is about 6,500 full time undergraduates, and about 1,800 full time grad students. Then UF has several hundred part-time students.

The ASEE profile also breaks it down by class. Keep in mind that freshman/sophomores don’t have to commit to engineering until they are juniors. Also, a lot of students have AP/IB/AICE/DE credits, so start school as Sophomores.

2018
Freshman: 613
Sophomore: 1213
Junior: 1463
4th/5th Year Seniors: 3203

Because a lot of engineers have AP/IB/AICE/DE credits (many which may not apply toward their degree), and since it takes about 4.5 years to graduate, the “senior” class is by far the largest.

@Gator88NE, thanks for the details and explanations! My youngest daughter was accepted for the fall with Mechanical Engineering as her stated major. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead of her!

Why does the pdf say 10000?

https://www.eng.ufl.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/HWCOE-Fact-Sheet.pdf

Maybe 10,000 includes both grad students and undergraduates?

@Greymeer That number includes undergrads/grads/part time and distance learning (UF EDGE).

Sorry, I just realized I accidentally hijacked a thread… (will post new thread.)
