This year's expected incoming class size increase to around 1130 with the Maseeh Hall opening, right? Will the number of international admits be 8% of 1130 or 8% or the total number that MIT admits? Do they factor in yield for International Students?

As far as I understand it, the international quota is set by senior officials at MIT (i.e., senior to the admissions office). In past years, the quota has ended up being about 8% of the incoming class, but it’s not necessarily set at either that absolute number nor that percentage.

(Chris, please correct me if I’m wrong.)

I believe the yield is very similar for both groups.

^^I see…I didn’t know this. I thought that the quota was strictly 8% of the total undergrad student body.

mollie is correct (as always). we will likely take a slightly larger n of international students with the larger n[sub]t[/sub] of total students; however, i’m not sure whether the overall increase in intl applicants will mean that even with the larger n of spaces available it will still be a more competitive process. i suspect that it will however.
