I will be applying soon to UDel as an OOS also (from Jersey)
we just visited a few days ago, and I absolutely loved it!
we talked for awhile at admissions with some students, and the program sounds awesome!..using theater majors as patients in the mock hospital sounds pretty cool hahaha

what was your daughter’s favorite part of the program? what other schools did she apply to? do you remember what was the thing that totally won her over from any other schools she was considering at the time?
thanks!

My D visited a number of colleges but she was most interested in UD, Rutgers-New Brunswick, Villanova, TCNJ, and Catholic University (which, by the way, has one of the best nursing programs in the country, even though the school overall may not be as highly rated as the other schools mentioned). She visited UD first and really loved the campus and the nursing program facilities. Upon seeing the other schools she felt that UD was, in her opinion, the school that had the most to offer with the best training facilities. I think that visiting UD first colored her perspective when she went to see the other schools, which of course are all also excellant schools for nursing education. She liked the compact campus at UD-it is a relatively large school but it is easy to get to any place on the campus. She basicly felt that UD fit her image of all the things a college should be and she felt more comfortable there when she visited as opposed to all the others. She was not able to pinpoint a single specific reason why she choose UD, but after attending she felt she had made the right decision. Nursing at UD is a very tough major. The faculty is very challenging but genarally are very supportive (but nursing courses at UD are not curved). The clinical simulation lab at UD is state-of-the-art. She was able to land several externships at Christina Hospital and also at Nemours/E.I. Dupont Childrens Hospital to supplement her educational program. She also even found the time (she has always been very good with time managemant) to become a sorority member which allowed to make a lot of friends who were not nursing majors so she felt her college exprience was very well rounded. Best of luck to you in your college search. Should you choose to come to UD I do feel you would get a nursing education on par with that of any college in the country (and it is relatively economical for an OOS student).

We had gone to visit UD on a weekday when UD was in their Spring Break. We went to McDowell Hall and spoke with someone there (I do not recall the persons name or title but she apparently was involved in some capacity with running the simulation lab) and told her our D was interested in the Nursing program at Delaware. She gratiously offered to take us on a brief tour to see the available nursing facilities There were no students there at the time. Maybe we just lucked out by being in the right place at the right time. I don’t know if this type of tour is routinely available but if you contacted the Nursing Dept. at UD I’m sure they would let you know if this could be arranged.
