Nutritionist and Doctor (RD+MD)

I will be going to college in upstate new york this fall and planning on majoring in nutrition along the pre med track. Is it possible for me to become both a RD and MD (go to medical school right after i take the board exam for RD). The reason I want to do this is because I would like my patients to know that i am an expert in nutrition when I open up my private practice. Thanks

Becoming a RD requires a 6-12 month of full time internship/practicum before you take your boards. Your practicum sites usually are at locales that are not at or near your college. I have 2 friends who are RDs. From what they’ve told me you are not given a choice as to where you intern, you’re assigned. Also you will intern at 2-5 different sites during your practicum. And these sites are often not even in the same states. (One had intern sites in PA, OH, NJ and CA–she went to school in CA. The other interned in NM, LA, and OK–she went to school in NM.)

This bumping around all over the country isn’t exactly conducive to med school application process.
