I've been reading the CLAS AP exam credit online information.
ISIS still isn't posting my AP's earned. If they aren't posted fairly soon, I may request that scores by sent again.
Question. Once the scores are posted is it safe to assume UVA has already given me credit?
For instance, if I got a 5 in APUSH, it would mean that I should receive 8 credits "earned" for HIUS 201 and 202 according to the CLAS information. Does UVA contact me in some form to tell me what credit I have or do I just assume that I do since it's posted on ISIS? I just don't know how it works. On the flip side, if I take the courses HIUS 201 and 202 I forfeit the credit. How and when does any communication of intent on their part and mine occur?? Or does ISIS just figure it out? The professor helping me at orientation was clueless about the process. I hope I can count on my advisor to be more helpful. Is my advisor my "Association Dean"?
Silly question but, can AP credits ever be a curse in the sense that one is forced to graduate in under 4 years from UVA?? I know my UVA years will be some of the best in my life--I love it already. I guess there are people who use their credits to graduate early, but I really don't want to do that, that would really bite.
Also, heres another AP credit 101 question:
I can see how using AP credit might give one the ability to lighten their course load from time to time, and might help with declaring a double major-perhaps, how else are they used? Could they help with the process of semester abroad?

I would call the admissions office before you waste 15-25 bucks and see if they've gotten your scores. Remember, they're entering thousands of AP scores (incoming class of 3,000, so even if each person takes 1 test, that's 3,000 scores...but I would assume they've got somewhere around 12K tests to enter). Give them time.
And yes, look on the undergrad record (google) and see what you'll get credit for, and assume that you have those credits already. Eventually, your scores or credits will show up on ISIS with the test, your score, the class it counts for, and the number of credits you receive. If you retake the class, you forfeit your credits (which is kind of dumb), but i'm pretty sure you have to fill out a form too. You just have to keep checking, and if they don't show up the week before school starts, that's when you need to call the admissions office and get on it. And no, you'll be assigned an advisor later on, if you haven't already. You'll get a new one upon major declaration.
And no, AP credits are not a "curse", and they can't kick you out unless you're failing. Use the credits to either fullfill reqs, double major, have a lighter courseload, or like you said, they can help fill in required classes if you can't take them if you study abroad. AP credits are treated like you took the course, you just didn't get a grade, so use them as you would a regular class.

Thanks Shoebox, you totally answered my questions! Wow, you should be some sort of "ambassador" interface to UVA. You really seem to know your stuff.

Eh, I did my research. A ton. Transferring was going to be a big deal, so I did my part.

I've actually had a lot of PMs and I may start a "blog" on here for transfers atleast, but I'll be sure to keep up with this as much as I can in the next coming years at UVA. Others on here have helped me a ton, so I might as well give back.

I posted in another thread that if it hasn't shown up by now, odds are they won't ever be posting it.

This happened to myself and a few others I know, in my case I had bubbled in the wrong number on the ap form, thus sending my scores to a different school!

Don't worry too much about it, just bring in the scores when the school year begins and show the registrar who will input them in.

Protean, I tried PMing you but for some weird reason, every time my screen froze before even typing the msg. Since I am the same situation, I wanted to ask you how did you find out about the wrong bubbled number. I havent even received my ap scores in the mail. I looked for number to call at Uva but I didn't know where and who to ask this thing. I didn't dare call AP because I would be tempted to pay 8 bucks to hear my scores!

I found out when I got the paper scores back, it lists what universities you sent the scores too and mine listed something other than uva. I had apparently bubbled one in wrong (after seeing it it looked like a reasonable mistake on my part).

As I said in my earlier post don't worry about it. If you're using them to place out of classes and move up it won't matter for now because it's not like the professors or anyone checks to see if you've completed the prereqs.

BG- you should call the AP service. Go to collegeboard.com and find the site for AP (under testing i think) and give them a call, they have an 800 number and a long distance number, and when you call it prompts you to enter a number, and one number is for scores (for $8) and another is so you can talk to someone. Explain that you still haven't gotten a copy in the mail. They'll probably resend them, and you might be able to swindle the person into telling you on the phone for free. But make a fuss, it's stupid that you haven't received them, and if you haven't, UVA probably hasn't either.

UVa already had my scores on ISIS (test scores section) and I can view what credits I've earned from the AP in the (Transcript section)

Got my scores. It says UVa received them. I guess it will just take time to appear on there.

soooo who's excited that their ssn will no longer be their id#. meeeee. how many times did uva screw up and send out wrong ssn's to people?

It's a good thing our SSN isn't our ID anymore, but frankly, I was looking forward to the easiness of it. My VT id was ridiculous and took me a month to memorize. But, the funny thing is that ISIS will still use our SSN, as well as all things dealing with the registrar/finance people. This will be funnnnnn

I know it will be a few years before they change completely over but hopefully next year the professors will be strictly using the alternate number. I don't need any of those emails saying how sorry the university is at the mistake the professor made at sending out everyone's SSN to the class.

I FAX'd my AP results to the University, but they still haven't been posted.
Because I couldn't get anything good, course-wise, at orientation, I signed up for PLAP 101 with Prof. Ceasar, and a few other non-desired classes.
I scored a 5 on my AP US Gov.&Po. and Comp. US Gov&Pol. The CLAS site says this gives 3 credits each for PLAP 000T and PLCP 000T. What the heck does that mean??? I can't find any classes listed in the COD with those course #'s? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. But I certainly don't want to take PLAP 101 if I would already be getting credit for AP scores.
How do I find out for sure? Is there a # to call? An advisor to e-mail? I tried e-mailing one Prof. about getting into his class even though it was restricted by "inst.". I've not heard any word back.
I know that ISIS is opening up this Friday. My current schedule is so bad that I really need dire assistance. I have to drop 50% of what I'm signed up for. What a drag. I really had hoped that UVA would have designed orientation days better.
Dean J: why not really improve the orientation experience??? It would make such a nice impression on new students and would not waste our time and that of the University.

jimmyjam:
I know you're frustrated over all of this. But there's really not much UVA could do to make orientation 'better'. The have hundreds of kids each orientation that they try to get signed up for classes, and hundreds more at previous and future orientations. They only have so many classes and spaces. It would be ideal for one to just pick classes and the school go around that, but they can't because too many people would have such varying classes that it would be impossible to staff every class. I know it sucks to have one of the later times (at the transfer orientation, I was the third to last person to register for engineering classes, which is why I don't have a physics lab and have physics at 9am MWF) but that's why they open up ISIS so early. Yes, you probably will have to take a crummy class that you hate first semester, most people do (mine was geology! gag!). But it's college. Everything will work out, it's worse if you make a big hype now. The only way it would've been better is if you had an earlier time, but that's completely random and no one can control it. I'm sorry you're coming into college, especially UVA, with such a down attitude, but it's the way of college life. Scheduling sucks hard sometimes, and sometimes it's perfect. You'll never know

000T courses are just equivalencies - it means that it's not at the level that the subject is taught at UVA but they feel obligated to give you some credits for your trouble (the T is for transfer - they apply to some community college classes, etc). Sometimes you'll get a 100T or a 200T too, which just means no exact class exists at UVA like the one you've taken.

Shoebox,
You're right, but I'm not so frustrated or down at all--maybe I just sounded that way in my posting. I'm still very upbeat and I know that I'm going to the best University (for me) that is out there! I do trust you, others, and Dean J when it is said "everything will work out". Honestly, I'm so happy, and full of anticipation about going to CVL. I'm not quite as vocal as you are about your excitement, but I really am thrilled!
Thanks Hazelorb for your explanation, that makes a lot of sense. Hey, and everything is cool with my roommate.

jimmyjam: glad to hear :) We all know it sucks, trust me. But just think about it this way: would you rather not get the classes you want now, or when you're trying to graduate? I always shoot that thought through my head when I get frustrated, seems to do the trick for me =P
Oh, and I also feel your pain on the whole 200T thing. I got 2 200T credits and it's a pain in the butt, but hey, atleast we're getting more credits =P
Keep your chin up, first semester scheduling is one of those "life lessons", so just stay patient/excited, and see what happens over the next few weeks...we do have until Sept 4th to add classes, which is over a month away, which is good news for everyone :)

yeah, I am getting a bunch of 000T and 200T credit from the IB tests for Math and History. but you know what? I will survive! (as long as i know how to love, i know i'll be alive....)

and my scores aren't there either. Time to put together a schedule

jimmyjam, it sounds like you'll be awarded elective credits for your PLAP classes. But check with Gloria Gates who is the transcript evaluator :)
